Intimidating Football Club Sides

lol Australia beat England 3-1 in a friendly and they've apparently been world beaters ever since [icon_lol1. [icon_wink

And it's moreso the media that built up the expectation for England to win. Some people people ignorantly believe it was a certainty, but most football fans, and especially English fans (we're a pessimistic bunch you know) knew we were probably not gonna get too far. I admit I was naive and thought we had a chance, but I was a tad less knowledgeable on the game then. We still sing for our country though, and do it with pride.
Even now England have a decent manager and are performing reasonably (I'll be able to make a bit more of a judgment once they play Spain), I think the best we can hope for at the next world cup is the semis...and that is a huge ask. In 06 Eriksson got the squad and the tactics wrong, and in 02 we weren't too bad but just didn't have the class. Which will be our downfall in future cups as well IMO.

02 was def their best chance. they actually played some good football that tournament. They only just got beaten by the eventual champs. I remember talking shit to my lecturer at the time, who was english saying "england wont do shit, argentina will win the wc easily!" when england beat arg, i copped it lol. lets hope it never happens again! go argentina!

wtf, a blackburn fan is in this thread. i never knew they existed. i mean u see them in the terraces, on tv. but how many people have u seen in the streets wearing a blackburn jersey, or even when discussing football, someone says, "i support blackburn". well i gotta say, good onya man. blackburn are the only bearable team in the premier league.

You must have good eyesight there aren't many on the terraces. Its true I have never met another Blackburn fan although I did once see someone with a Blackburn jersey.

yeah man! like i talked to my aunty on the phone, who lives in england. and she asked me who i go for in football, and i said barca and then she goes, no i mean in premier league and i said well i dont really watch it but i guess blackburn and she goes BLACKBURN??? noone goes for blackburn.

Yeah, probably something to do with the fact that they are a pack of c*nts.

Seriously, that was exceptionally pessimistic Scotty. Whilst I acknowledge that factually you might be on the pitch with some of your statements, it doesn't excuse an attitude such as that. The beauty of football is that anything can happen. You could get an unexpected goal in any one of those group matches, or beyond. Your opposition might not come to play and you could cash in that way. As a supporter you should have such scenarios in your mind.

I've heard it all now..

You can't hope for good luck every game mate. And in 06 Owen was going through an injury prone phase and Rooney was coming back from a serious injury so that was a blow. We were playing very ordinary football too, so it was a given that we probably weren't gonna get very far. But of course you still hope for the best and feel shattered when they eventually do get knocked out, it was a bitter pill to swallow as well with that cheating c*nt ronaldo getting Rooney sent off too.

Chelsea....they have won a billion in a row at the Bridge (well undefeated for ages) and can play like absolute rubbish and still win. I hate them and they can win both pretty and ugly. Essien, Ballack, Drogba, Anelka, Terry, Cech, Carvalho, Cole, Cole are all very very good and they scare the piss out of me when Barca draw them in the UCL.

i love playing chelsea, bring 'em on!

I don't find Chelsea intimidating at all.

In recent times, i don't really think any one team has stood out as a force above the rest.

Real Madrid were probably the last really dominant team in the early parts of this decade. AC Milan to a lesser extent around when they beat Juventus in the CL.

I would say Liverpool has a pretty intimidating force in Europe in recent times, but you'll probably all shoot me down to pieces. [icon_razz1 Plus i don't think any of the real heavyweights rate as us that big of a threat despite our recent record.

Anyway, at the moment i really don't think there is any one particular 'intimidating' team.

Ning, Barca should intimidate you and everyone else this year. We are back!!!

[icon_lol1.

Fair play though, Pep's doing pretty well for someone with hardly any experience.

Although it does help when you have players like Messi. [icon_wink

The side seems to rely less on 1 man now after Ronny got shipped out and despite how good Messi is. Iniesta'a emergence as a class player has really helped this also the emergence of Bojan who has similar traits to Messi spreads the load. Pool were awesome in the first half against A.Madrid before they switched off after the break, I give them a big chance to end the streak at Stamford Bridge tonight.

I'm sure he's doing a few lines of coke just like the other Argentinian "legend" Maradona
Useless fat cheating argie twats.

*reels in fishing line*

oh and look at that, maradona is showing messi his world cup winners medal! and theres gary lineker, oh, you dont have one gary? sorry man. :P

Meh, Gary Lineker is gay for Maradona anyway [icon_razz1

Ya know thinking about it, there isn't really a proper intimidating team these days. There are your big clubs (Pool, Man U, Barca, AC Milan etc) but they are all somewhat more beatable than the great teams of the past.

thats pretty true actually, especially in international football, the 2 previous world cups have shown that the rest of the world is catching up to the big footballing nations.
