Is Josh McGuire really that good?

Sam Kasiano......has both. Geez I like him.

p.s

McGuire's OK. Never going to be our next Webke or Civo, but he'll do for now.

Agree 100% except for 2 things.

1. Sam drops the ball too much in the play the ball but ****, he's the biggest 5/8 I've ever seen;

2. McGuire is a lock waiting for Parker to retire. All he needs to do is to learn to offload and I see a 1st rate lock, and in the meantime, pass the ball at the line instead of just taking hit ups. Maybe even have a nice little combination with Milford running off his shoulder.

At the same time, I think he is also playing the house down at prop this year now that we finally, at last, for the first time in ages, have a decent bench rotation

I liked what I saw from the limited time Garbutt had last night, even without the getting the ball at full speed, he was a handful to the defenders every time he hit the line, and he did a pretty good job in defense as well, good work rate, solid tackling... he could be what we need to start next to Moose.

I liked the look on his face - he meant business. I want to see him take on Moa and JWH. YES!

I would much rather him starting over Blair, seems to have a good presence and more impact.

Kasiano is rooted after 15 minutes unless he doesnt have to defend much.

Wait til next year when interchanges are reduced. Let's see how good Klemmer or Kasiano is then.

Ha ha ha, yeah i figured i might be. i just thought there may have been some like minded souls out there to have my back. it appears i may have been mistaken....
No kluppy, you're not totally alone ! I think McGuire is an outstanding forward but I also believe he would be an outstanding secondrower or lock. For a true comparison I consider WhareaHargreaves to be the perfect model and side by side with McGuire, well if a person thought they were similar then I would have to question their eyesight! Also, imagine Webcke and McGuire for comparison,similar builds but Webby had some extra beef and bent the line, hit harder and had the same workrate.

Mcguire is an absolute asset to the team and were I coach I would have him as my starting second rower with another big bopper in his position. I understand we don't have that option at the moment but perhaps next year we will see that change. Until then he is doing a fine job and probably cannot do much more than he already does.

Fit him for a QLD jersey ...

does that answer your question :okey:

If his failing is not being Sam Burgess type then every other prop in the game is a failure too.

I think he may come into his own next year when the interchange is reduced. Forget lock, I want Jai Arrow to take over that spot

I think he is a good and aggressive front rower and one of our best players. He hits the line hard, plays with a passion for our club and does a good amount of work. In saying that he is a good player no doubt but not the best front rower in the game. He hits the line hard but doesn't bust many tackles, there are plenty of other props making more than McGuire.

Klemmer deserved to be picked for Australia over him.

I'm sorry but i just don't see it. Don't get me wrong, i can't knock his work rate or attitude but i don't think he really offers much venom in attack or defence. There are front rowers in this comp who are running for well over 100m each and every week and Josh McGuire is certainly not one of them. In my opinion, there is not a snowflakes chance in hell of us winning a comp with him as our no. 1 prop.

let the abuse begin.........

yeah this is mostly how i see him, maybe Garbutt might be able to fill the big guy roll for us but it seems he's a ways down the prop rotation ladder.

I definitely think we can win a comp with him as our number 1 prop but the 2nd post I quoted is definitely valid. He needs a big bopper beside him to help out IMO.

yeah but i reckon the best games josh has had for us are when he has played 60-80 minutes. that has allowed the coach to rotate other forwards. If we had a couple of really big guys to get a roll on josh would be much more effective because he is reasonably quick across the ground and could keep the opposition on the back foot.

Can't really disagree with that personally. So maybe it's not that McGuire isn't that good, just that he's not being given the correct minutes?

This guy is either a troll or has very high standards.

I was fine with Klemmer being picked as a bench forward. He's the best in the biz in that Palea'sena type role and his form in the 4N proved that.

But McGuire wasn't a slouch either. If you were putting together a best 17 from that tournament, McGuire would be infront of Klemmer and that was playing at dummy half!

I don't think many players deserved to wear the green and gold that year - they were just given it because so many players declined for one reason or another. If I was selecting a team, McGuire would have been there but I don't think he was the type of prop we needed either. The problem was, Woods and Klemmer were our two big enforces in the middle. Woods is a handful but lacks a higher gear while Klemmer is inexperienced.

Anyways, I feel like I'm an expert on the 2014 4N series that I can't help but expand on it when I can.

How good were those Kiwis?

Sad that a lot of them haven't been able to produce the same performances week in week out.

I sort of see what kluppy is saying. McGuire tends to get a free pass around here and the only knock he gets is that he should be a backrow. I don't think many disagree with that assertion either, the problem is, we already have one of the best in the business in Parker so you've just got to deal with it. I must say, on first watch, I didn't get MotM vibes but then, the match didn't really offer up too many. It was a team performance where everyone pitched in and everyone made mistakes. The only thing that stood out to Josh was slapping out Bird and putting in a dumb kick that alleviated the pressure off the Titans.

If Wayne does anything this year, I hope he just has us run the ball on the last and makes the opposition work it out from a corner ala the Bulldogs.
