Not really a player movement.. but Ivan Cleary was just sacked by the Panthers, for virtually no explainable reason.

Going to the Warriors I guess.

I'm speechless.

I'm sure more information will come out in the following days, but I'm struggling to comprehend this decision from Gould. It didn't appear as if coaching was the issue. If anything, injuries and long term decisions appeared to be the biggest factors behind their demise this season.

The only possible explanation is that he was looking to join the Warriors.

In which case, the Warriors have suddenly gone from contenders to favourites.

Did not see this coming. There must be more to the story. The Panthers have had the worst injury toll in the game in the last 2 years.

wow . Can he be sacked just for wanting to join or negotiating with the Warriors ? Will be interesting to hear this story I thought Gould was in love with him .

Weird they are looking at Griffin as a replacement.

Griffin? That's like sacking Jacques Kallis to bring in Shane Watson.

That's strange, the only 2 things I can think off is a bad relationship with Gould or he wants out himself.

Penrith have a gun young squad and we saw last year how good they could be when they were all together at the same time. Injuries were the problem for them this year.

The Panthers have sacked coach Ivan Cleary.THE Penrith Panthers have signed former Broncos coach Anthony Griffin to replace the sacked Ivan Cleary.
Panthers General Manager Phil Gould has been negotiating with Griffin behind the scenes for several weeks and is expected to make an announcement on Wednesday.
Griffin was sacked by the Broncos in 2015 but is credited with leaving the club in great shape for Wayne Bennett to take the team to this year’s grand final.
The Daily Telegraph understands the relationship between Cleary and Gould started to deteriorate over the dumping of Trent Barrett as assistant coach.
In a statement released on the club’s website, Gould “informed (Cleary) the club has terminated the final year of his contract, effective immediately”.

“Ivan Cleary has done a tremendous job in his four years at the Panthers,” Gould said.

“He has laid the foundation for the future and we are enormously grateful for his contribution to the club.
“We wish Ivan, his wife Rebecca and his family all the very best for the future.”

Being sacked is bad enough.

But being sacked for Hook... That's even worse.

Jamal Idris is definitely going to love staying at the Panthers now.

It could be worse you could get sacked for Henry or Stuart.

I didn't mind Hook and he isn't terrible, good to see him get a second go.

Will be interesting to see if hook will try lure any Broncos players to penriff. Especially those he fathered in the under 20s. Keep your filthy hands off Ben hunt hook.

Either way, Penrith players better get ready to lift some weights in the off season. It's bulking time
