Just an idea though I don't know how much merit there is to it..

I know Izzy gets found out in the centres with defensive decisions though he is a very good tackler when he gets it right. What would you guys think about the idea of him in the fullback position?

He can definitely jump and diffuse situations, faster than Hunt and has a lot more space to roam. Having said that it takes away more opportunities for him to score tries and he's definitely not a ball-player, not yet anyway.

To replace him in the centres I would love to Alex Glenn get a starting spot. Defensively sound and faster than what people give him credit for him - a very good player who hasn't found a key position just yet.

1. Folau
2. Winterstein
3. Glenn
4. Hodges
5. Yow Yeh

I wouldn't mind seeing him run around in the trials to see how he goes. Instinctively he could have a few problems but like all good things, they get better with age and may be a new successful model for a modern fullback. What do you guys reckon? Just a thought but definitely not serious on it when season 2010 starts.

Faster than Hunt? Really? Not that Hunt's a speedster, but I don't think Folau is as quick positionally. I think Izzy would be found out in that more than anything.

I think he'd have more luck spending the offseason learning how to play left centre than learning how to play fullback.

Kemp did sign didint he?

So between him,Hoffman and Beale we dont need to worry about shifting anyone else.

Izzy looks to be shifting from Wing to Centre lets not confuse him even more.

Dont mean to shoot your idea down so fast but we have options without moving anyone.

I should've been clearer with the point of this thread - it's meant to be trivial, not serious. [icon_razz1

I was wondering how he would do as a fullback on the team but never thought of it as a genuine idea.

And yes Coxy, maybe not positionally but I'm talking about using him as someone who can make the busts that Hunt was making with a lot more strength. How many times have you seen Hunt make half bursts to be chased down?

Fair enough Kan, I just think he'd struggle. Big time. He'd need to learn support play, and I don't think he has much in the way of acceleration so I doubt he's going to make the half busts K makes.

In reality I think he's too big to play fullback. You need someone very mobile and agile back there. Most fullbacks these days are relatively short, quick off the mark, with quick footwork. Slater, Hayne, Stewart etc. Plus they need some ball skills, which I'm not sure Folau has (his passing game looks very iffy at this point).

It's an emphatic no from me, with his only real strengths being his ability under the high ball. And in reality, that's the problem with him. That's all he has in his game at the moment.

wow Coxy your post just then made me think maybe Izzy needs time in Qcup to learn something new.

Now i got doubts about him..

I wouldn't go that far. He was still our top tryscorer for the season! I just think he really needs a good solid offseason learning his game and adding some dimensions to it. And then have him play in the one position regardless of injuries. I think he suffered being shifted from wing to centre on the right, and then come back to left centre.

I think he could do with Renouf coming to training and giving him some pointers on centre play. And a fair bit of work on his passing game.

Agreed - Qcup is too far. As mentioned he WAS our top try scorer... he's a good finisher.

Personally, I want Kemp at FB. It will be good to get some speed back into the FB position. Assuming Hodges is goneski after 11 and Folau is long term ... there is definitely merit in attempting to shape Folau into a premier centre. Perhaps more of the Strong, tough centre. (rather than the quick)

Even with Folau working on his abilities at center (passing, footwork, defence) I still have my concerns with him playing there. I think if he does adapt, his biggest strength could be his defence and ability to smash through the line in attack. He's a massive dude, and while he isn't fast, it could be akin to having a backrower in the centers.

That's my hope Scotty. If he can learn to hit the ball running on the outside of his opposite centre, forcing the winger to come in on him, and be able to offload to his winger (Summerpot), he could create so many breaks.

Look I know this sounds crazy but is there any chance locky could go back to fullback. As much as i don't like it, it is possible putting him back and putting ben hunt in the number 6

Scrap Folau for all I care.

Glenn excites me as a left centre, much like Tonie Carroll in the early years.
And seriously people, Gerard Beale is an absolute star.

Never sign Folau and keep Hannant & Stagg plus bring in Glenn or Beale into the centres. Sounds and looks beautiful to me.

Seriously Folau kept Yow Yeh out of first grade at times this year, simply bcoz they are both right wingers.
If Yow Yeh played in the 07, 08 storm side im sure he would be as bigger hype if not more than Folau!

1. Kemp
2. Winterstein
3. Beale
4. Hodges
5. Yow Yeh
6. Lockyer
7. Wallace
8. Hannant
9. McCullough
10. Kenny
11. Thaiday
12. Parker
13. Stagg

14. Glenn
15. Clinton
16. Sims
17. Setu

Folau is a waste of money. There, I said it!

Dude, Folau was our top try scorer last season. And then he screwed his ankle and was playing at center for the back end of the season, a position he isn't quite used to yet. Writing him off cause he wasn't a star for us in our last few games is just silly.

You have got to be kidding? Falou a waste of money is, I’m sorry, one of the most ridiculous things I have heard you say, usually you’re more balanced then this. Falou has won us many games on the back of his shear brilliance, how about that leap for the try against the Storm? I doubt there would have been many, if any that could have scored that try. Falou is not our problem, however the lack of forward power is. Hammant would have been good in that role but he is a toiler rather than an enforcer and that is what our pack is missing. Look at any of the top teams and 2 things that seem to me to be apparent

1. An enforcer, a leader, someone that sets the standard that others follow. Someone that can lift the team with either a hard tackle or damaging run. And
2. Consistency, something that our forwards haven’t done this season, hardly Falous fault.

I agree with Beal. He hasn't shown anything special compared to any young guys coming through the ranks.

In saying that, I wouldn't drop that amount of money from the team.
