I think people under-rate how much Roberts did for us. His defence was poor for the first year with us, but improved markedly as time went on. In attack, even if he was "under-utilised", just having him there on our right meant defences were always stacked there, and gave us more room elsewhere.
I would love to have the 2017 James Roberts at the Broncos. But the sad truth is that that Roberts no longer exists, at least not for us. Not having to pay him out just makes the best of a disappointing situation.

Have you all noticed yet how much Bennett manipulated Broncos fans for years in teaching us to distrust and hate the media??
It wasn't the Broncos the Sydney media hates.. it's Bennett. And we all fell for his BS for years.
Glad he's gone. He openly admitted lying with a smirk on his face this week. It's disgusting. So glad he isn't embarrassing our club anymore with his toxicity.
How can the Bennett apologists continue on this forum seeing this behaviour. All the times people on here called out the media for the rumours they put out, most of it has been right. Especially with regards to Bennett and the swap, how it went down behind closed doors and the way he secretly recruits on contract players.

He isn't the only one though who hasn't been truthful. Seibold repeatedly said Roberts was going nowhere, and don't kid yourself Seibold, the Broncos or the Rabbits didn't all know what was going to happen with the coaching swap or this Roberts move.
Clubs secretly recruiting players happens all the time as well. It's not exclusive to Bennett.

Agree.
Ask Isaako how life is without him, he went from Rookie of the Year outside of him to almost irrelevant a year later. I'm sure part of that is his own form and lack of confidence, but I attribute more if it to Roberts being out of form / injured / disinterested.

The media in all forms are terrible. That wasn't Wayne training us to not trust them, but simply years of bullshit on their behalf. The media are still shitting on the club without Bennett. Most of it has not been right, these blokes do guess and make things up. There's a guy on Twitter now keeping count of all the news these guys make up and not one of them is close to being at 50%. Bennett lied, sure. But what you just wrote is some of the biggest bullshit I've read in a while.

Bennett isn’t honour bound to tell the truth. Who gives a **** if he lied about this honestly. He wanted the media to stop asking him the same questions over and over. He’s done it to benefit us in the past, he’s not suddenly a **** for doing it for another team.

I more than hate the media but that's my own decision and if you think that Sydney doesn't hate the Broncos then open your eyes.

Yes whilst Roberts had a break-out season last year and warranted his origin jersey, I do feel like we have never seen his full potential and still lacked overall consistency. From my perspective, Roberts' being 'under-utilised' is more to do with his lack of intensity and hunger to get involved and go looking for the ball more. There were numerous periods where he would be all too content with waiting on an edge and even little things, like backing up a ball runner or taking a hit-up from dummy half coming out of our end was very rare.
Souths have picked up an enigmatic talent, no one is denying that, but given issues with attitude, an absence of team culture and a tendency to drift out of games I am actually fine with the fact he has left us.
As a contrast, consider the fan reaction if it was Latrell Mitchell who left to go to Souths instead. Majority of their fans, sponsors and officials would be outraged and hurt. This just highlights the gap between Mitchell, the game's best centre and Roberts, whom many thought was on an equal standing. Not even close...

I am not sure if he will be better than ponga. I know people have suggested we pursue ponga but i dont see newcastle letting ponga slip through their fingers.
I think one of the melbourne FB stock is the best we could hope for without blowing our salary cap and losing other players in the process.

The significant difference is that Seibs/Broncs stayed firm and dropped him to ISC.
Souths were aware of how much money they had to spend weeks ago from the NRL, it was genuinely put on cold water at first by Souths and went dead quiet. The move to stay firm and keep Roberts dropped was a master stroke. Out played Wayne and out played Souths.

Well, that's one way to look at it. The way you tell it it seems you think WB gives a flying **** about how much money the Broncos saved or Souths spent! Really? When you dislike someone it's amazing how far you can stretch a thing to make it appear as a victory. As if WB gives a ****.
