No you don't, because that rule does not exist.
Edit: Of course, if they want a player before their contract expires, it's a different matter.
For example, the grubby chooks could be having legal talks with Payne Haas now about a contract from 2025 onwards. They just would not be able to register it until the 1st of November 2024.
Under the latest amendment, they also would have to send the NRL any contract offers presented to the player.
That's pretty much what I've said. What they can't do is talk to him break his current contract. I haven't even been making comment about players coming off contract. Any contract they offer him now for when he is off contract wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on.
