OFFICIAL James Roberts granted immediate release

No you don't, because that rule does not exist.

Edit: Of course, if they want a player before their contract expires, it's a different matter.

For example, the grubby chooks could be having legal talks with Payne Haas now about a contract from 2025 onwards. They just would not be able to register it until the 1st of November 2024.
Under the latest amendment, they also would have to send the NRL any contract offers presented to the player.

That's pretty much what I've said. What they can't do is talk to him break his current contract. I haven't even been making comment about players coming off contract. Any contract they offer him now for when he is off contract wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on.

Whatever mate, believe what you like. I know from speaking to players I personally know who have left here over the past 3 years it's the case. Even though everyone knows tapping up goes on, They had to ask to be released to talk to other clubs because they were under contract with Brisbane. The player had to instigate the move. All other clubs can do is ask players if they have an interest, they can't talk money until they get permission.
Seems those players know about as much as you do about NRL contract rules...

The anti-tampering rule was scrapped in 2006:

It doesn't matter. They can't sign the player, but they definitely CAN talk to them.

Like I said, you believe whatever you like. You officially can't tap up a player and encourage them to break their contracts. There is nothing in that article about a player breaking a contract. I haven't been talking about players coming off contract, which for some reason you are transfixed with when it has zero relevance to a player breaking his contract.

Mate. He is that arrogant he thinks he can just lie to fans. Paying fans. Members. Bookies. Betting markets. They're all stake holders and they all matter. But not too Bennett!

Think of the dads in here saying their kids favourite player is James Roberts. That sort of thing sells memberships and merchandise. You can't have people downright lying about that shit

Maybe the dads should take issue with Seibs then because he wasn’t playing him? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with what Bennett did. He said something to reduce the hysteria around it, it’s not the first time the tactic has been used and I can assure you it won’t be the last.

The best thing about releasing all the players like we have absolutely no money has to be spent on them playing for another club

I'm one of those Dads, I'm a Bennett fanboy, and I'm fucking furious FTR.

I'm happy for them to be playing games. "We've had no interest, he hasn't approached us formally for a release, we intend him to see out his contract". But an outright fucking lie, "He won't be here in 2019 or 2020" is an outright fucking lie, I don't care why.

It's also what DCE did, after months of "my plans haven't changed" (giving him an "out" if his plans all along were to stay with Manly), he was outright asked by an official or journo, on the record, "will you be playing for the Titans" and he said "yes". That's what pushed me over the line with him, the flat out lie.

Agree.

Ask Isaako how life is without him, he went from Rookie of the Year outside of him to almost irrelevant a year later. I'm sure part of that is his own form and lack of confidence, but I attribute more if it to Roberts being out of form / injured / disinterested.

I’m not disagreeing with the original point regarding the defensive attention Roberts demanded but Roberts wasn’t catching kicks on behalf of Isaako. His dick like fingers have been his biggest step backwards.

I for one and glad to see Roberts gone, he was inconsistent in his play, professionalism and attitude. I'll definitely miss seeing him tearing down the field in open space wearing our jersey but playing the odds we still come out on top in this one.

Love what Seibold is doing with this club, everything he's done so far has been the correct move, keep it up!

Well, that's one way to look at it. The way you tell it it seems you think WB gives a flying **** about how much money the Broncos saved or Souths spent! Really? When you dislike someone it's amazing how far you can stretch a thing to make it appear as a victory. As if WB gives a ****.
Of course he would cares how much souths paid..... Its called a salary cap... His roster management is bad but its not that bad is it?

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad move.... For souths?
Souths are top of the table, they have lost 1 game, a lot of their wins have been built on desire and defence. Roberts attitude will improve immensely but for how long? He has never had a great attitude for an entire season. He can win you a game but if his attitude runs off on anyone at the club (like it appeared to at the broncos) then it's a big risk for a twice a season "match winner".

You can say something like we are currently unaware of what's happening with James Roberts and deflect to another issue. Don't have to blatantly lie. Gosh you're so far up his shriveled anus

That approach categorically does not work. You say that and they say well we’re still hearing he is. Its the ***** in the media trying to turn the game into a soap opera that causes coaches to have to resort to this.

I’m sure Seibold is aware that Roberts needs to be treated differently from the others and you need to have your kid gloves on or he might get upset, but Seibold just wasn’t interested in doing it. I can’t blame him for that. The way Bennett talked today it was like Seibold has no idea what’s required.

there was always going to be collateral damage with Wayne moving to another club...GI returns and plays out the year and this move doesn't happen...then what...

Roberts probably remains a distraction to the club for the rest of the year. Roberts was not our future, half a dozen young forwards, 2 centres and a halfback are. They need the right level of guidance, nurturing, training and a positive environment around them to shine. They most definitely dont need the ongoing saga of Roberts and his negative attitude...

The right move for us, 50/50 for souths currently...

Very clever ...
