Earlier this season doesn't necessarily mean before last season. I'd imagine what the article meant to say was that when Roberts was in the middle of re-signing for the Titans, Bennett wanted to sign him but somehow word never got to James.

He said earlier this year, not earlier this season. It could mean before the season started or after the season started, we'll never know either way.

I know what it said, but for whatever reason my fingers didn't want to type 'year'.

Given Roberts would have been finishing up pre-season training and his contract was up, I'd say 2016 makes the most sense, especially given the state of the Broncos salary cap around that time.

Super excited with this signing. The perfect replacement for Hodges, although in a perfect world, I'd loved if Roberts and Hodges got to play together. Imagine what Justin could of passed down along the way.

Not since Yow Yeh have we had a genuine threat out wide with speed to burn and the ability to score from anywhere. Roberts is all class, and he'll certainly get better under the Bennett Bronco's structure.

We've been severely lacking in the speed department in the past few years, and now we've landed the fastest player in the comp. Funny how things work out.

To the people questioning his defence, a lot of the issue was surely the defensive structure and capability at the Titans. Under Bennett's style, with each man doing there job, and trusting the man beside them to do their own, I have no doubt Roberts defence won't be an issue. It can't be any worse than Reed's or Hodges', which at times was quite atrocious.

As for the people questing his discipline, I have no doubt he'll stay in line under Bennett. He had no issues at the Titans, and I see that continuing under Bennett's guidance. Bennett understands players so well, that he won't place any specific restrictions, yet he'll make it clear he won't tolerate him doing anything stupid. That's all that's required for a player who has been troublesome in the past. A bit of trust and faith. Monitoring and scrutinising every move a player such as Roberts, who has been trouble in the past, only makes them trip up.

After Bennett and his Origin dreams, another deciding factor for Roberts was not uprooting his home on the Gold Coast where he and partner Anna are expecting their first child in March.
“He’s going to stay on the Gold Coast,” Donovan said.

The thing is. Noone expected us to go as well as we did last year with our roster. Making the gf was way above what was expected of the 2015 broncos. But now we add one up and coming player and all of a sudden everyone's jumping up and down. If we had finished 8th last year noone would give a sht if we signed Roberts this year. My opinion anyways ☺
