JT vs Johns

Been watching some of Joey's Origin highlights too

I find comparing players like Lewis and Joey to be impossible. You may as well be comparing Joey with Larkham, Rugby League was that different when Wally first started playing it makes for an uneven comparison. The idea of getting to your kick was basically unheard of with the way turnovers were handled until 83.

As for JT vs Joey, I don't see what's so funny.

Both are great players, JT has Joey covered for Origin, Joey has JT covered at club but only for now. If JT can continue his current form for the next few seasons he'll have Joey covered there as well.

Joey's 2005 doesn't do a lot for me, would rather JT's 2015.

John's was a great player, but he admitted he took drugs in the football season while he was playing, although he was pretty vague about this. Because of that, it's JT for me.

I put him in the same boat as peptide paul.

And I hate the argument that "they're not performance enhancing". Football is just as much mental as it is physical. Confidence is key. Johns would have been thinking he could single-handedly beat an opposition 26, buzzing like a magic motherfuck.

Exactly, and I think he said he used them to help him cope with the pressures of the game. They helped him perform in one way or another.

neither id go with a little known player called darren lockyer only player to be so good hes number one in 2 positions

Exactly this. Everyone when the whole drug saga broke was all "oh, but they're not like steroids or peptides or anything". No, but he would have felt 10 foot tall and bulletproof. Any follower of any sport knows full well what confidence (or a lack of) can do to a player. To say that it didn't have an effect on his performance is just ludicrous. Watching highlights now, I have to wonder how much of his amazing play was drug-induced confidence, and what was real. And then I wonder how the **** no-one else can wonder the same damn thing.

A mind-booster is arguably more potent than a body/stamina/strength-booster IMO.

Its not only in mind.....his adrenalin would have been as high as he was, so his body would be behaving likewise to his "enhanced" mind state.

Most likely he was off his scone during the 2005 series.

Is this confirmed he was off his head while actually playing? Tests should have picked it up.

They really over achieved that year. Only just scraped into the finals from memory, beat a Canterbury side that couldn't wait for the year to be over and we're always going to be easy pickings for the Roosters in that game or Manly in the GF or any of the teams in the top 4 that year and maybe the Sharks

Also beat Melbourne in Melbourne...not easy to do over the years.

Joey was so much better then JT it's isn't funny. Johns' performance in 2005 is the greatest individual performance in Origin history.

Remove 2005 and how is Johns' Origin record look then? Not that flash considering he made his debut in 1995 - which the Maroons won 3-0. Looking beyond that you have him in and out of the team, even losing his spot to Kimmorley at one time.

Compare that to Thurston who firmly entrenched himself in the team since his first game and it's no contest.

Yep, which is exactly what I said at the time. FFS he even admitted to taking drugs to deal with the pressure.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure in the Gould interview Nine put on to make him the victim, he said he used drugs during his playing career.

I'm not sure what the stance was back then, but I think most testing was done in house by the clubs.

Yeah he did say that but I always took it as while he was a footballer and not necessarily while he was playing so never really saw it as a huge deal. But if he was taking the field while high that is different. That is cheating.

who cares ... they're both shit compared to the great Darren Lockyer aka "The Football God"
