Lyon has definitely had the better career but at their best I'd take Hodgo.

Lyon to me is just very text-book while Hodges is a freak and has more upside to him.

The difference between the two is that Lyon has been able to basically play at his best week in week out since 2008. Hodges trailed off around that time.

Jamie Lyon is text book in the good way though - he does exactly what a centre is supposed to do, and he does it perfectly nearly every week of every year. Sure Hodges might be a bit flashier, but I'll take getting the job done 99.9% of the time over getting it done 70% of the time but with more pizazz.

It isn't about pizzaz, it's about basically creating opportunities out of nothing, while Lyon creates them off the back of well worked structures.

Let's not forget that Hodges only learned how to defend last year.

I love Hodges. He's been a terrific player for the club for a long period of time. A genuine match winner and one of the last few players I'd pay to go and see play - a real entertainer.

I do have one minor gripe though and that's his need to milk a penalty. I know when it works it's great as it takes pressure off us and gets the team out of trouble but it also happens to kill momentum when it doesn't pay off. I can remember several times over the last few years when we've made a break or have the opposition on the back foot. Hodgo will then go for a run, try and milk a penalty which doesn't happen and those few moments allow the other side to get their line set, killing any opportunity we had.

Like I said, it's a minor issue and I take the good with the bad. In a season largely to forget last year, he's one player who did the jersey proud by singlehandedly keeping us in a lot of games.
