How about, as ning said, consistency across a number of seasons and actually have a significant impact at Origin level.

There's another outside back who was excellent for the Broncos, but who disappeared to play some other shitty game for a few years, then came back to the Dragons. Scored a heap of tries. An exciting player. Never did shit at Origin level. And never considered a "great".

Was awesome for the Broncos from 1994-2000 (2001 he was quiet but came good at the end, watch the Dragons game...yowza) and equally as good in the Green and Gold.

He even had some good moments for Queensland...but yeah he was surprisingly quiet for the Maroons.

Considering (rightly or wrongly) Origin is regarded the pinnacle of rugby league, a player's inability to make an impact at that level is what tends to separate a "good" player from a "great" player.

i agree with pete, but i see coxys point.

Sailor is the reason the game is now full of big 'athlete' wingers rather than the smaller nimble actual wingers. he was an absolute revelation when he debuted for us. then we got tuqiri, won a premiership, and since then pretty much every team has just tried to get huge wingers/centres rather than traditional ones.

he was one of the broncos all time best, no doubt. but he DID fail on the Origin level. what did he get, 1 try? i cant even remember a single great origin moment of his.

Game 1 - Totally outplayed by his opposite.
Game 2 - Was doing nothing until Johns came on.
Game 3 - The Girdler/Johns show

1 series victory, same as Sailor. Difference is Sailor won a MotM award.
