Kahu has to goal kick

65.79% for 2016 so far
72.84% for 2001-2016 overall

They showed Parker's stats the other night on the pre-game show on Fox, he's kicking 100% in the middle 60% of the field (predominately penalty goals), but from out a little bit further to the sideline he's kicking like 3/16 on the season.

Round 11 vs Cowboys 2016 - Kahu 3/5 (Broncos lost by 1)
Round 12 vs Tigers 2016 - Kahu 3/4 (Broncos lost by 1)

With Parker we probably would've lost by 3 or 5... what's your point?

Maybe.

In saying that...

Kahu definitely kicked 3/4, in a game Brisbane lost by 1 point.

Interest of fairness.

Tigers also missed a kick... in interest of fairness.

What's your view on the goal kicking then? I'm not sure. Are you in favour of Kahu or are you in favour of Parker?

Personally I would persist with Kahu. He has more upside than Parker, provided he receives weekly sessions with a goal kicking coach. Parker received coaching from Halligan if I remember correctly, and Kahu should receive similar coaching.

The only issue I see right now with Kahu, is that he doesn't decide to take the kick back to open up the angle. By kicking from just outside the 20m mark, and sometimes inside it, it leaves him with a very acute angle to work with, and it doesn't leave much margin for error. He strikes the ball well, and often it is straight, but with more of an angle to work with, it more than likely won't miss.

Right now, he's kicking in the mid to high 70's percentage wise. He only recently became first choice kicker, and that has only been while Parker has supposedly been carrying some sort of foot injury. As far as I know, Kahu wouldn't have been practising one on one with a kicking coach all that much when he hasn't been first choice goal kicker.

There's no reason why It can't improve more as the season progresses.

I know we've been losing games with some saying goal kicking being the difference in the end, but the way I see it, with our constant knack of exclusively going for penalties, we are limiting any chance of scoring tries. Others may see it differently, but our attack can be great if we let it be. Right now, we're sacrificing try scoring opportunities inside the opposition red zone, for two points instead. If we score more tries, the odd missed goal kick here and there no longer becomes that much of an issue.

And Kahu had an opportunity to be the difference and wasn't.

Parker had similar losses against him in the OP.

What's your view on the goal kicking then?

Refer to the title.

I can't criticise one player than willfully ignore another player's shortcomings.

Kahu is better than Parker but he obviously has issues with the mid range pressure shots. It sucks and has cost us two weeks in a row but it's still the best we have, unfortunately.

Spot on bazza. Your point about us scoring more tries is so apt. We have the best attacking roster in the league, probably the Cows are the closest thing to us but we have more points in us than they do if both at our peak. Unfortunately, every others top four side has a gun goal kicker. Why do we kick for penalties when our strength is out potency at tries? I think this is Bennett's biggest problem so far this year, he seems to be struggling to I still confidence in the team, maybe that will come later in the year. Maybe Bennett doesn't know how to pick a team up from a heartbreaking GF loss, it is foreign to him too.

Are we expecting to to kick 100% of all goals? Blaming the kicker for a loss when they've kicked 1 from 4 I get, but 3 from 4? One of which was from the sideline? That's completely unfair. No way was that loss down to Kahu missing that conversion. The tigers even scored another try after that!

Also, it was windy as **** in that stadium last night.

Taking the 2 isn't just about the points. It's to dissuade the opposition from using slow-down tactics anywhere in their own half.

Yes, I agree, but if we are being fair, than Kahu deserves as much time and effort the Broncos have put in to Parker, in order to become a better goal kicker.
