Kahu has to goal kick

I don't think there's another kicker in the comp that would would miss that first kick.

We have two of them

Now now BP....

Fair is fair.

I haven't given up on Kahu and I don't blame him for the loss.

But this is the type of result I pinned on CP in the OP, I can't just turn a blind eye.

Round 11 Cowboys - 3/5 (lost by 1)

Hopefully that's the only result held against him.

Lahu tried to kick the cover off the first conversion. It needed to be caressed like a new love.

Is Kahu still our savior when it comes to kicking?

A very Corey Parker like performance with the boot. Not the first time either.

That's right. Kahu's kicking hasn't been all that much better than Parkers. Unfortunately for Parker we score most of our tries on the wings (Oates) so he has a bad time with it but Kahu isn't much better from the wings and tonight he missed a kick Parker would have got.

In saying surely there is someone in the team that can kick. Niko nailed the klcking challenge but isn't on the field long enough. McCullough is good for a 40/20 so perhaps there's a combo there that MIGHT be worth a shot.

That run up to the first kick was weird. It wasn't the normal way he runs and kicks... not sure what happened there, but Kahu doesn't miss those normally.

He's still a better option than Parker imo...

We haven't had a good reliable goal kicker since 2004. Is there any other side that has this terrific run?

I would go as far as to say that the only reliable kicker we have had is Mick Devere (76%). Parker (72%), Lockyer (68%), O'neill (68%), Matterson (64%), & Carne (61%) were never great kickers.

I don't get all the Kahu must kick instead of Parker. He honestly isn't that much better than Parker. Milford has looked good on the few occasions he has kicked & I'm a bit disappointed Hunt gave up the duties, because he wasn't that bad either.

We have to let Kahu have a chance.

I didn't notice but mates where saying Parker took back goalkicking after Kahu shanked that easy one?

Not sure that was a good call... When Halligan's asked who'd he'd have kicking for his life he didn't say the kicker with the highest %, but the one that was mentally strongest. It seems like that wouldn't have helped Kahu's confidence or mental state, I reckon we should have shown faith in him to kick out the game. I wonder if Parker just took over or Bennett sent word?

Either way Kahu would know his boot could have been the difference, so here's hoping he uses that to drive and keeps working at it. He seems to strike it sweetly.

One little thing I noticed, when he was taking that sideline conversation there was signing in the way as he stepped back, but he worked around it rather than moving it. A more experienced goal kicker would have moved that out of the way and made sure their routine was right. Also, Bennett in the other day mentioned he didn't realise Kahu could kick. Sounds like he doesn't spend a huge amount of time working on it, so he must have a fair amount of room for improvement.

Parker didn't take over..

Yesterday was quite breezy and it was quite hard to determine which way the wind was swirling. I'm prepared to persist with Kahu.

An interesting thing on the pre match analysis on Fox where Vossy highlighted our goal kicking vs the Cowboys goal kicking. Parker kicked at something like 65% for the season, with 0 from 9 attempts from the left sideline. In comparison, JT kicked 10 from 10 from the left sideline. For a right footed kicker, Parker definitely should of been nailing a few more.

Kahu's season percentage was just over 81%, which tells me, with the full time responsibilities, Kahu can become a good goal kicker. He kicked 5/6 against Manly, and 3/5 against Cowboys, which is still better than what Parker can do. We need to use the services of Halligan once or twice a week, and I'm sure we'll see some benefits.

I was listening to ABC's Grandstand call of the Melbourne vs Parra game. In the post-match discussion they were questioning whether Smith's goalkicking (1 from 4) may cost the Storm. Their words were that the other top 4 teams all have top goalkickers in Thurston, Maloney, and Parker, who are all kicking above 80% this year...

Is he? I thought he was close to 70%?

I'm not sure TBH, but not only would it be way below 80%, but he's not even kicking them ATM. My point was twofold - that the commentary team are pretty oblivious to our GK struggles - and that we're not the only top-tier team in the situation.
