One of the most common complaints among fans is the goal-kicking. As great as Corey Parker has been on the field, his goal-kicking has hurt the Broncos on multiple occasions.
Round 25 2004 vs Souths Drew 32-32 (Parker 5/6 goals)
Round 9 2006 vs Knights Lost 32-30 (Parker 5/6 goals)
Round 25 2007 vs Bulldogs Lost 25-24 (Parker 4/5 goals)
Round 9 2009 vs Sea Eagles Lost 22-20 (Parker 2/4 goals)
Round 16 2009 vs Parramatta Lost 21-14 (Parker 1/3 goals) (It was 14 all until the final minutes, Parra kicked the field goal and scored a try when the game was theirs)
Round 26 2010 vs Canberra Lost 18-16 (Parker 2/3 goals)
Round 1 2011 vs Cowboys Lost 16-14 (Parker 1/3 goals)
Round 9 2011 vs Storm Lost 29-22 (Parker 3/4 goals) (It was 22 all with minutes remaining until Cronk kicked a field goal and Melbourne finished with a try)
Round 10 2012 vs Sea Eagles Lost 24-22 (Parker 0/4 goals)
Round 3 2014 vs Roosters Lost 30-26 (Parker 3/6 goals)
Round 8 2014 vs Rabbitohs Lost 28-26 (Parker 1/3 goals)
Round 18 2014 vs Panthers Lost 35-34 (Parker 5/6 goals)
Round 7 2015 vs Dragons Lost 12-10 (Parker 0/2 goals)
Round 22 2015 vs Bulldogs Lost 18-16 (Parker 2/3 goals)
Round 24 2015 vs Roosters Lost 12-12 (Parker 0/1 goals)
Granted to blame Parker's goal-kicking for those results is unfair, but it goes to show how important an accurate goal-kicker can be. They can be the difference between victory and defeat and in such a close competition to lose 15 games is a lot, especially the three or so last year.
Now Jordan Kahu doesn't have the best kick percentage (68.75%) according to Rugby League Project. However he appears to be the best alternative the Broncos have (Milford & Hunt being the others) and the way he strikes them is impressive. In tonight's game he kicked three very valuable goals that gave Brisbane the breathing room they needed to fend off a fast finishing Titans. If he's handed the reigns, his numbers should improve (given he'll take more attempts than just the one or two which invariably happen down the sideline) and he maybe an even better goal-kicker.
For a team that relies a lot on penalty kicks, it confuses me that this change hasn't happened.
