Kennedy, Release at season end? Yes or No?

Reed had a run of pretty bad form and so did Barba. It was the same last year with some players as well. Poor form is ok for some but not others.

Fair point.

In saying that, it's a lot easier to replace a forward than it is a fullback or centre. In Reed's case, he's been a big part of the team for three years now so it's going to take more than a bad game or three to see him dropped. Especially when his depth options like Mills (gone now), Kahu and Drew are struggling for one reason or another.

I reckon if he wasn't injured, he would have returned against either the Warriors or Sharks.

Peter Psaltis talked with Martin Kennedy tonight. At least he's nothing if not honest especially talking about his form.

I got in on that interview midway through and it took me a few questions to work out who it was - Kennedy certainly sounds different to what you'd expect and actually speaks very well. Must admit his stocks went up with me after listening to that because he at least sounds like a guy who is intelligent enough to know he needs to turn things around and how to go about it.

Meantime, Salter P'peters continues to be a complete marshmallow when interviewing anyone from the broncos .. every question leads off with "Has it been frustrating......"

Good interview by Kennedy, worth listening to, he's very honest about his form and is a well spoken guy.

Yeah that was a great interview. One thing that struck me was how aware Kennedy was of everything - his own form, public perception and even semi-obscure stats like Inglis' try scoring record and how many times we've lost when leading in the last 10 minutes. It definitely allayed any concerns I had that he just came up to Brisbane to collect a paycheck.

That's all well and good, but no matter how noble his intentions were, that's all he is doing right noe.

Yeah but you've had it in for him from when he signed. I don't think he's had a fair go. I think he'll be a lot better under a new coach that doesn't give him 15 minutes a game.

I haven't heard the interview but I've seen him before on Broncos TV when he was talking about a bunch of reptiles he owned.

Anyway, regardless of the anecdote, I couldn't give a shit if a player sounded like Barack Obama or the drunk at the local, his eloquence is meaningless when it comes to his onfield performance.

I'd rather a sack of shit that couldn't string two words together but was dynamite on the field than someone who was a scholar off it but a pillow on it.

The only two stats Kennedy should be attaching any significant to is meters run and tackles made (and maybe missed tackles, but that would be three... ).

Sure, but I don't think anyone is claiming that Martin's interview makes up for his on-field work. From my perspective I'd prefer a player who is aware of his shortcomings, professes a desire to work on them and improve his game, and demonstrates a strong interest in the team to one who is underperforming and doesn't show any concern. So if nothing else that interview shows he is heading in the right direction.

Well, realistically no player is going to say, yeah i'm not performing well enough but I'm pretty happy with that.
That's why I don't care what he says, but rather his actions on the field.

The interview demonstrates nothing, his actions will determine whether he is capable of backing up his words.

it demonstrates he's a decent bloke that is well aware that he needs to be better, and wants to be better. you can tell he feels like he owes it to the fans and to the club to be better than he has been. it doesnt make up for poor form but at least we know he's not just coasting through collecting his pay cheque.

but like someone said it must be pretty hard when you get 10 min stints on the field. he's been much better recently, he is pumping hte legs more after first contact in tackles. so why still only give him tiny stints on the field?

im pretty confident he'll be much better next year under bennett.

Mate...

Kennedy definitely speaks my language. If he can sprinkle in the odd Simpsons and South Park reference, it's me.

But yeah, he says all the right things to the media. Just needs to get his shit together at the club.

If he could just produce on the field he'd be a fan favourite with that attitude.

The first step to fixing his on-field performance is recognizing there is a problem

Yep....it's at least a start. It takes character to look in the mirror.

I just hope Ben Barba has done something similar over recent weeks after his own delusional assessment of his early year form

“Over the last few weeks I reckon I’ve been pretty good,” Barba said. “I’m not going that bad. I only dropped one bomb (against Penrith) and you can’t catch them all.”

FMD.....
