THE EX Kevin Walters

Didn't know which thread to post this, but a lighter side to the characters. Maybe things are happier at HQ?

Too heavily edited but it was still fun😁 would love to have heard a longer version with lot's of information amongst laughter.

We seem to be doing well in our second halves this year too. Team seems to be quite fit. I wonder if that's a result of the hard preseason that according to journos was 'too hard' for some players.

DO NOT. Will jinx the club.
Well the top two coaches are clearly Bellamy and Cleary, but coach of the year isn't neccessarily about coaching the top team. It's even more about rags to riches. The only competition Kevvie has at this stage is Payten. They were both on the chopping block and have succeeded making lemonade out of what everyone else said were lemons. In fairness, Payten has his nose a bit in front: the Cowboys were heavily tipped as wooden spooners, now they're at 3 with a PD to match.

The gloves are off.

One of the great threads, a few here are wiping the eggs off of their faces, particularly after last night.

Their "Plan B" was that Reynolds was the man behind it all, well we travelled to Newcastle without Reynolds.. and gave them a beating.

Is it time for a new thread title yet ... or should we wait until we thrash the Titans and head into the bye on the back of 6 straight wins

The thing I have been most impressed with the last couple of weeks was his tactics and bench use. He has completely out-coached his opposite. We always knew he would be able to motivate his players, but his tactics have improved immensely in his time as an nrl coach. Whether that is bcos he has the players to carry out his plan, or he is listening to new advice it still is massive kudos to him. A good coach takes the right advice and finds the right troops....

I'd say it's a few things:
- In Reynolds he has the troops to execute a plan
- He's got the team actually playing in defence, which allows them to stay in a game and therefore the plan can be carried out for longer
- The team is winning, which increases confidence across the squad
- He's not doing 3 roles at once, now that DD and Ikin are there

I think Kevvie is a smart coach... he was our attacking coach in 2015 when we were absolutely creaming teams... it's just now he's got a team that isn't dropping their heads straight away and is therefore able to execute what he wants them to do.

If this team can complete at or above 80% I think we are very difficult to contain.

Defence has been the most impressive improvement for me.

It has come leaps and bounds the last 5 games. The way we are defending now compared to the trials and the first 4 games its like a complete different team.

The good teams know defence has to come first before attack and if you dont enjoy defending then you will not go far. Finally for the first time in a few years the boys look like that actually enjoy defence and the heads are not dropping when mistakes are happening.

I'm still unsure whether we are a realistic contender this year, storm and panthers still feel like another level and the panthers did put a score on us a few weeks ago. But no longer do i feel like we will battle for the spoon. if we can keep this up we deserve to be around 6-4 by the end of season.

And kevie absolutely deserves credit for that. lets hope he keeps improving because if he ever manages to make it to the big one with us it would be a massive story that not even the nswrl can downplay. And we all know the NRL like to favour the feel good stories on grand final day
