Brisbane hooker Michael Ennis has emerged as a likely target for his original club, the Newcastle Knights, after his dazzling man-of-the-match performance at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Sunday.

And Knights coach Brian Smith revealed last night that another Novocastrian product, Parramatta halfback Brett Finch, also featured on Newcastle's preliminary hit list of potential targets.

Did Finch ever have a contract at the Knights, or is it because he was born near there that he could be going home.

I hope we re-sign Ennis.

Yeh, hopefully we can tie up Ennis, because i reckon he'll be awfully tempted to head back home seeing as WB is leaving.

Brett Finch was raised in Eleebana, played for my local club Valentine-Eleebana i believe, and then went to high school here as well, so it's pretty much where his home is.

Ennis/Marsh is the sharpest 1-2 rake punch in the competition. The Menace MUST be re-signed.

I agree Ennis should be a priority signing. i reckon the order of priority is:

1. Hannant
2. Ennis
3. Taylor
4. Michaels
5. the rest

Is Ennis off-contract this year? If so, he should be the priority signing ahead of everyone.

Yeah Ennis is off contract.

If Lockyer leaves and Bellamy comes, I can't see Bellamy keeping Ennis - he would surely bring Cam Smith with him IMO.

I'd love to know how we could afford Smith.

Well if Lockyer leaves, that's a heap of cash freed up there.

True, but I think a few contracts will need to be upgraded by then. And we've got a little fella joining us named Izzy who is commanding anywhere from $250-$500K per season depending which journo you listen to.

I see Ennis has Priority Number 1... dont wanna see him go Actually i dont wanna see anyone go thou id be fine to see Moon walk

You all know that he's going. As much as it sucks, He's a brilliant player who clearly is out of favour because of PJ Marsh. One game isn't going to save his behind. PJ will always be preferred when available A. Because he's a Queenslander. B. He's had more senior football than Ennis.

Sucks to say it, but they're going to have to struggle very hard to keep him. Hookers are supposed to be 80 min players, and one on the bence sounds like a waste of room for another forward or back. Choose or lose I say.

Where is Ennis' wife from?

might have a lot to do with it if she wants to move back.

I dont know why any1 would though.

Marsh is more potent in other positions. He'll be the bench utility primarily.

Ennis and Smith are very similar players, so Bellamy should be happy with Ennis as well. Ennis isn't as good right now, but I can see him improving if he gets an extended run as starting hooker.

Bellamy tends to use Smith for 80 mins aswell, maybe we won't need a bench hooker??

I'd take Smith but from what I am led to believe Folau's contract is weighted to be heavier in the latter years (ie.taking up quite a bit of the Lockyer departing salary cap money). Carroll's money will be mostly to upgrade the good guys who have become better (Hannant [icon_pray., Michaels, Boyd, Ennis etc). I just don't see how we could afford Smith who regardless of the come home factor would require at leat 350k a year and more likely more than that.

All thr Broncos should do is cancel the contracts they currently have with Nick Emmett, Shane Perry and the likes that don't even play regularly, and when we need them just take them from the QLD cup. That will free up any extra cash we would need for contract upgrades. Then we could still have the dough left over from Tunza retiring and the likely exit of Michaels to sign whoever they desire.
