Lachlan Maranta

Yeah, lose some weight to get more mobility and speed, get some courage from the wizard to not be so timid to back himself, and he can be pretty damn good.

The example set by the captain?

Well the captain is another example of what I am talking about, a player that needs some work done by the coaches to extract everything that he has. Not happening though.

@lynx000, I agree with most things you said, but I think Maranta lacks killer instinct, which is something essential in a back, more so a winger, and that's not something you can teach...

We should just make the Wizard of Oz our coach. If we did, Corey Norman would have a heart, Maranta would have courage and Griffin would have a brain.

Then again, the Wizard was just a giant fraud who had nothing, so in a way, he's already our coach.

Tried stopping myself from posting on this subject because I don't think he's worth talking about, just thought I'd let people know I was talking to Denan on Facebook about broncoshq and maranta,so he's going to be checking the site out to see what's been said.
Anyway IMO maranta is terrible ATM except under the high ball, in which players such as Yow Yeh and even Copley still exceed him.
Was talking to an Aus 7's player who thinks Maranta needs another year and he'll be a gun, but his exact words were
He's a good winger, Quick but just doesn't have that x factor you know what I mean?

Interesting, but I can't see how any coach could justify selecting maranta next season.

Port, I respect your views, I still think that at least part of the issue is a lack of confidence though.

He may have been a fraud, but he knew how to entertain the fans, can't say that for Griffin so no he isn't our coach.

I actually saw a little something in Maranta last night. He needs a big dose of self belief and he has to accept it's a contact sport and put his body on the line.
I thought he should have scored off that in ball last night but didn't really commit, the same goes for that woeful tackle attempt on Barba, no commitment and way to timid.

Yeah, I'm positive more than ever that he can be a classy player. I said last night that it looked like he didn't look very comfortable or mobile with his weight, and he obviously has massive confidence issues. He needs to spend a year in QLD Cup, lose 5+kg, and learn to want that try line like it's his dream skateboard.

Yeah but Boyd was like that when he first came into NRL he just happened to be on the end of a very classy backline.

Maranta just doesn't seem to be positionally aware.

They need to put Maranta in QCup and have them persist with him at fullback, He could/would be our 3rd option after Barba/Hoffman.

Maranta played well on Thursday. He has a lot of heart for the club. He really does try.

I agree, but I try too and have a lot of heart for the club but will certainly never be good enough. Maranta is great to have on the books for sure but should only be in the team on the back of a lot injuries in the backs like this season.

I don't think he played well at all. When Scott Prince i think it was made a break he basically jogged behind the defenders rather then trying to get the ball passed to him. He is utterly useless.

Why do people keep saying he has heart? He doesn't. I saw on many occasions where he would not put in the effort. There were a couple of times he was in contention to get the ball and he either watched it or was lazy in his attempt. We had a try scored against us where he watch with hands on hips. Mind you, most of our players are all guilty of that this year.

'He has heart' is the default response for a player who is so shit, you feel sorry for him and frantically try to come up with a redeeming characteristic.

I don't think he has heart, he has self-preservation though - always slows when he is coming into the defensive line, no wonder he's always comically held up - he submits before contact!
