Look, the game against the dogs wasn't flash and there is probably a lot of doomsayers, but I think it is time to take the broncos goggles off and have a serious lookat 2009.
Lockyer/Hunt/Hodges - We have a serious problem where if one of these three doesn't play, we suddenly look like half the team we are. Lately Lockyer has been in all sorts. Look, his my favourite player and we all know what a champion he is but his age is showing and he just can't keep up with the young guns these days. I'm happy to have him to add finishing touches and whatnot but he's hardly doing that either. Dare I say, he's just letting in points now more than anything. He needs to work on his tackling, there is no argument there. I hope he goes OK this year. Hunt and Hodges, we need these two more than ever. I think Hodgo is the man. It's sad - because once opposition teams shut him down we haven't got much. My point? Too much on victory relies on these three players. A bit too much IMO. I think it will cost us.
2009 - Let's be realistic and honest here. Assuming we make top 8 - and I'm guessing we will be around the 5th to 8th position if we do. Do we seriously have the experience, maturity and professionalism to win the GF? Even with incredible form and a bit of luck to get there, I've never seen such a young and raw Broncos side. I would HATE to see the Broncs lose a GF but even more - I would HATE to see the Broncos crack under pressure in the GF and cave in. The 2009 team are a team capable of caving in, there is no doubt about that and that is fair enough - we have a very young and inexperienced side. It would just hurt a lot to see the Broncos in a GF and just crack that's all - I'd rather NOT be in a GF than LOSE it - If that makes sense.
Anyhow, just some food for thought. What do you guys think about 2009 and the reliance of Hodgo - And the skipper's form/role?
