Match Threads/Spoilers

I still want parker on the team, he's one of my favorite players, I just think someone else should do goal kicking, if he proves me wrong and is consistent this season, then i'm willing to cop it on the chin and admit i was wrong. However, my point is I have no confidence in his kicks, you just never know if he'll miss or get it he's very inconssitent, in saying that he did only miss slightly on both kicks but still.

LOLZ broncopwn you just don't know when to take the hit and be quiet do you?

Parker had two SIDELINE conversions last night and one from close to sideline. Hardly enough evidence to give the responsibilities to someone else.

As for "how long does he get" to prove his kicking ability.....it's Round 1...LOLZ.

Give me a player first and kicker second > a kicker first and player second, any day, any game, anytime.

Stats look great on paper....

Yeah we're all aware of what round it is. I didn't say he should be dropped right now, but people on here for years have said that people will improve and ave never said when they expect it.

So how long do we give Parker to prove that he's a decent kicker?

Or do we wait till it's too late, and say "we should have done this earlier than now"?

Fair enough rock, I wont make any more comments on the goal kicking till the next game.

Jesus I should have known broncospwn would come in and go nuts defending El Masri.

I chose him for the comparison because he is widely regarded as the best kicker in the game. I am not disputing that. The fact is, Parker can only kick what's in front of him and, for the last two years, he has been kicking them at a rate that is perfectly acceptable for an NRL kicker. One game does not change that fact.

Well obviously, it was a ridiculous comparison. You were comparing one of the best goalkickers the game has ever seen to corey parker's goal kicking. Were you expecting a fair enough, corey is better answer? You bought el masri into it to with stats, I simply brought in more stats. We can all use stats to argue, but stats don't tell the full story, where he kicked most of his kicks from for example. I simply said I regard corey as one of the worst regular goal kickers in the nrl. Yet me and nashy get mauled simply because we're voicing an opinion, when some ppl on bhq wanted corey parker to be dropped from the team after he had a bad game no one jumped at them but because we say we think he isn't a good goal kicker, we get three different people jump to his defense... wow.

Maybe because when people (myself being one) were calling for Parker to be cut from first grade, there was a real and valid reason, e.g. his shocking performances in 10 straight games.

Where as you were saying, after Round 1, that Parker's goal kicking is below par. It isn't and schmix simply tried to use stats to try and show that it isn't. I can't speak for her, however like she said herself, she used El Masri because he is recognised by many to be the benchmark goal kicker. Much like people use Slater, Lockyer, JT or Falou to judge performance in implied positions.

Of course not. I don't believe that, and I'm sure no-one here does. If you read it again you can see I made that clear.

Nor was I "mauling" anyone. I was simply trying to bring in a bit of perspective. Stats do not tell the full story, no, but they give a much clearer picture about goal kicking than they do about any other aspect of the game. Again, I compared him with El Masri because he is the best, and if Parker can measure up to him (even with less attempts) then he can't be doing as bad as many seem to think.

Just to make it 100% clear, for the fourth time, it was not an attack on El Masri.

I dislike HaZZZZem El Masri because he's boring. Nice guy. Pretty reliable. Boring as batshit. That said, Borey Parker wasn't exactly setting the world on fire last season either.

Hilarious nicknames aside...is it more fair for one to compare Parker's first 200 attempts to El Masri's first 200 attempts?

I've taken the stats from http://stats.rleague.com.

Parker:
152/200 = 76.00%

El Masri:
151/200 = 75.5%

Only one of those players were taught to kick by Darryl Halligan...

Anyway, I'm honestly over this discussion, it's obvious we have different views on corey parkers goal kicking, so lets just agree to disagree.

De Vere 1
Yow Yeh 0

Oh yeah!

I'm assuming we are allowed to jump on this bandwagon?

Really Coxy? Apart from the Tonga try I thought Israel was great in defence - quite a few times he got up in Tonga's face and shut him down. In attack he wasn't helped by the rusty service he was getting from his inside men - both through the hands and from the kick we didn't give him much of a chance Ithought. I am sure he will get better

Don't get me wrong, when he was in position he tackled well. But too often the Cows were playing the ball and there was a 4-on-2 overlap out Folau's way and that's when he was calling for reinforcements. The result of that was too many people sliding too quickly, which would've been curtains if Thurston knew what he was doing.

Izzy needs to open his mouth and communicate. That's one reason I was very anti him starting in the centres. I wanted him on the wing in defence precisely because he's far too shy.

Well yes, that too. But some people seem to have the weird idea that you "don't pay that much money for a winger".

*cough* Wendell *cough* Lote *cough*

We would've paid that much or more for them...they chose the bigger coin in Union.

Haha this forum is ridiculous sometimes (wait, make that most of the time). Parker misses 3 sideline conversions and he is already on the chopping block. FFS, El Masri has gone a few games missing 3 from out wide. I am no huge Parker fan (though I was impressed with his game last night) but sometimes it seems that this forum has some kind of vendetta against him.

I have to agree with this. Corey is a good solid backrower and he does seem to cop unwarranted and unfair flak on here sometimes.

lolz! You're one to talk about a vendetta against players. Mainly young ones.

Nice avatar BTW.
