McGuire going to the market

I'd say McGuire is in the top 10 props in the NRL now, for sure. Could end up the number 1 lock in the future too.

Agreed with your first point, but he's massively overrated based on the fact that hes better than Hannant and Kennedy who both suck shit. We shouldn't be content with him because of this, we are the Broncos, mediocrity shouldn't be rewarded.

Agree with your last point...the rest is crap.

No, sorry penny that's wrong. I agree with you on most things but McGuire is in the top 10 props easily without a doubt, and that's not just opinion the stats back it up.

What happens if McGuire leaves?

We're left with Hannant who has his own rumblings about leaving and that absolute flop of a signing playing QCup.

We would get rolled every game bringing us right back to where we were in 2010.

Nope, not a lock, can never be a lock, coz people say so...

Unless the position evolves once again in the next few years, its where I want him to end up for sure. He's more mobile and a bit smaller than other front rowers.

You lot will give me a ribbing over this but I fair dinkem mean it, if we lose either McG or Hunt to other clubs, I will cease watching our games until Griffin and White are gone.

I don't know how true it is here, but I like how you read on certain boards, "the Courier Fail is crap, I don't believe a bar of it" then they release a story like this and suddenly people are contemplating life without a proper front row forward. To me, this is just one of those dime a dozen stories the papers release because they've got nothing else to write about so they report on a total non-story. Until a team actually comes out to me this whole deal is just hogwash.

As for Josh himself...

Nope, not a lock, can never be a lock, coz people say so...

When did BHQ become Passive Aggressive HQ?

I'm just playing but I see these posts from time to time and wonder where these issues have even spawned from? Seems like out of thin air.

Anyways Moose/Big Show/Man With A Unknown Tribal Tattoo McGuire is a star of our pack and somebody I see as a lifer but a player I feel still needs to improve a few facets of his game before he can really push his claim as one of the elites of the game. For me, he's in that pack of forwards like Tim Mannah, Ben Hannant, Aiden Tolman etc. who are good players but haven't quite found that next gear yet. I believe Josh's problem is mostly in his defence where his technique can be soft and he rarely gets the better of his opponent allowing them to roll through the middle with ease. I still have nightmares of both him and Gillo going into tackle together, I've literally seen players drag them a good 10m while they're holding on for dear life. So that's one aspect.

The other is his ball playing which was actually one of his best aspects of his NYC days but really fell down last year where he always seemed to be good for a dud pass or two. I think he needs to bring that back and we need to use our forwards more like rna suggests.

A few of us have often suggested we should play like the Bulldogs but I think we forget or underestimate the use of the likes of Kasiano, Pritchard, Williams, Klemmer, Gavet and Browne in that mix. They always had mobile prop forwards playing towards big bodies but the only big guys we've really got are Oates, Wallace and Hala. Think we need a better balance.

People need to stop freaking out about the fact that we haven't re-signed Hunt and McGuire yet ...

OMG ... we haven't re-signed 2 players that aren't even off contract for another 18 months. relax people.

They have players that are off contract this year, that they need to sign first since they are off contract sooner.

and i wonder if the club has learnt something from continually rushing to sign Wallace to upgraded long term deals, and want to wait until they see how Hunt closes out the season first. especially as it is his first full season of first grade.

Nolan is reportedly moving back to Brisbane in August sometime and i think thats when we will see some movement on re-signings and new recruits.

I would really like Kennedy to get back in first grade, I don't think he's been given a fair go and I certainly don't think on form alone he deserves to be dropped, if that's the base line then Hoffman should've been dropped in round 2

Last time I checked Kennedy wasn't thrown into fullback and told hey perform or we will drop you, as much as despise having Hoffman at 5/8th, I don't blame him totally for his performances there, on the other hand Kennedy has hardly been asked to go out of his comfort zone period, his had a fair go plenty of times, his also been paid to perform extremely well which he hasn't.

Kennedy has been treated poorly IMO. They've let what they are paying him get in the way of a fair go. He hasn't been great by any means but he hasn't deserved what he has got either.

Hoffman wanted the position, so yes I blame him completely for his form. As Beads says, I think he's being judged on his pay packet, I don't think he's our worst NRL prop, I'd have him ahead of Wallace.

Kennedy has certainly not lived up to his pay packet, but the inconsistency with Hook really pisses me off.

There's been plenty of players over the past few years more deserving of a demotion than Kennedy, yet it's never come for them. Kennedy couldn't have been dropped quicker.

Seems to have his favourites is all I'm saying.

By the same token, Kennedy hasn't really shown anything since 2011 to warrant persevering with.

Where as, the players Hook stuck with had shown something in the past and were integral to the team.

Otherwise, they got their spots due to a lack of alternatives. (eg. Maranta.)

I'm not asking you to prove me wrong or discuss this topic. I'd rather we just talk about Josh McGuire, his worth and where his future may lie. I'm just asking fans who have that impression to think exactly why they might have it, who they're thinking about exactly and what the differences might be between those examples and the Kennedy one. There might be an example that has slipped my mind, but thinking back on the obvious ones...I think it's a stretch.
