McGuire out for the Season

Wow, are we real fans? We've had players in and out all season and still found ways to win. Josh is a huge loss, probably the most important player along with Hunt but we still have Parker, Glenn and the backs to eat metres. It'll take some adjusting but we are still contenders.

I'm disappointed, and still hoping for a change in the diagnosis once he's had the proper assessments done, but I think our title hopes are far from over. If it was Hunt or Milford, I'd probably say it's over but I think McGuire as good as he is, is replaceable to a certain degree. We'll bounce back from this and go from strength to strength, other teams may also lose crucial players (Storm -> Slater) so it's hardly cut and dry.

Sorry what was that? Was just getting ready to burn my Broncos jersey. Gordie tells me there's plenty of room at Cbus.

Agreed broncospwn. As much as it sucks, it really isn't the end of the world. One or two more wins will all but assure a top 4 finish, then we're 2 wins away from a Grand Final. All of the hard work we've done to get us where we are will help our cause in a big way.

I just wish McGuire would be one of the players on field in the GF. He deserves to be there.

We really need to finish top two now.

Get that home final, hopefully win that get the week off and get another home final.

We'd been pretty lucky with injuries this year. Most have been easily compensated for. To be honest, it looked to me like Reed was the one most missed tonight, we were shocking down our left side in defence.

I'm not at a Big Pete level of surrender, but it does make everything that much harder. If Thaiday goes to prop, then it's a big dent in experience off the bench. I'm tipping Dodds to be the one to step up and make the difference.

Time to shine buddy....

Shit happens, I believe we have the talent to fill this void. I know it will be hard but I trust Wayne, Thaiday will turn up. Is Vidot another option off the bench.

Not even kidding - Vidot to prop. Just fucking do it.

He'll make 10 times as many metres as those powderpuffs on the bench (Dodds, Wallace I'm looking at you).

Sure, his defence won't even come close to the level of McGuire's, but we've already got plenty of blokes who do the hard yards in defence... metres are what we'll need.

Vidot on the wing is fine, he makes McGuire type hit-ups there anyway plus we need his size out wide for miracle tries like that one against Manly.

its not the metres that concerns me most with josh being out. its the clean up work through the middle that he does in defense that will be sorely missed. the best example of that was against the cowboys a month or so a go, they really got us through and around the ruck with out josh. he really is the glue in the middle who keeps everythin clean and tidy. the other big let down will be his quick play the ball which he seems to get a lot of and then that allows parker to roll through straight after for big yards and second phase play.
wallace and dodds are ok but nowhere near josh at this stage of their careers.
this is a massive hole...

This is a big blow, but not a fatal one imo. Dodds came back just in time and is my bet to (partially) fill the gap left by "The Big Show", with Thaiday, Parker and Blair needing to step up to the plate, and hopefully Vidot comes back soon to gives us the meters we need as well from the wing.

I doubt this will be a misdiagnostic. Unfortunately, an achilles injury is fairly easy to identify without the need for scans, so my hope is that Josh recovers as well and quickly as possible!

S.O.S Dunamis Lui, we've got 3 days to try and get him from Manly in a mid season transfer, if we have any money left over under the cap.

If we were to look at the bright side of the McGuire injury (Which there is very little of), the injury comes at a reasonable time, he should be fully fit come Round 1 next season, if Darius' recovery time is anything to go by.

I'm curious Unbreakable, what's the appeal in Lui?

He's been Manly's best forward for the last 18 months, we just lost our best forward, he comes from Brisbane, he's young, he can play long minutes.

I don't really see any need to go on, he'd come in and supply exactly what we need

****. I think this is just about the worst injury we could have. Blair isn't really a big runner of the ball and neither are our reserve props. Thaiday can do a job at prop I suppose but aside from this year he's been pretty average there. Our record without McGuire is pretty putrid too. Something like 35% from memory.

Anyway, time for Blair to step it up some more. He's got the experience, no reason why he shouldn't be expected to shoulder the burden. Whether he can though is another matter.

I think just like everything else we have done this year, we need to share the extra work load between everyone.
