McGuire out for the Season

I'm not used to seeing you react so extremely, big Pete. This definitely makes life harder but is a bit much to give up completely.

Things won't be easy but Wayne has 2 weeks to plan for life without Josh. It might be a tiny case of blind faith but having him at coach does give me more confidence about dealing with this.

The good thing about this team is that no one has stood out too far ahead from the group. Everyone's just played their part consistently. I think we will be just fine.

Unless Boyd's injury turns out to be serious too :/

Any chance of signing a Rod Griffin or another prop in Qcup before June 30 on short 1 year deal

I think Wallace will step up.

I'd start Wallace and keep Thaiday on the bench for a bit of punch and experience at the 25 min mark

8 Wallace
9 McC
10 Blair
11 Glenn
12 Gillett
13 Parker

14 Oates
15 Dodds
16 Thaiday
17 KNik/Parcell

I have Vidot and Kahu on the wings except when we play a big team (bunnies dogs) Vidot and Oates are my wingers, Kahu drops off the wing and we bring in Joe O.

Love the idea of having Vidot and Oates on the wings....serious power running on the first two rucks of a set...

JOSH McGuire has already attained an early milestone in his long road back to full fitness from an Achilles' tendon tear. The State of Origin prop was operated on less than a month ago but this week was able to put the crutches down for good.
He is now in a 'moon boot' to protect his tendon while walking.
And the freedom losing the crutches gave him was utilised straight away as he jumped on the exercise bike to begin working on his fitness.
He had already been spotted about the Broncos' gym doing upper-body weights while still on the crutches.
"I am back on the bike mate," he said.
"I got some good news today that I don't need the crutches anymore.
"So it is another step towards next year.
"They are all positive signs - I am already excited about next year, so now it is just about sitting back and watching the boys do what they do."
McGuire admits it has been tough dealing with a season-ending injury with his team on top of the NRL ladder and heading for the finals.
He feels the frustration especially during games.
"I am not very good as a watcher - you can ask my wife," he said.
"There are a lot of swear words and a lot of chucking stuff around the lounge room.
"But I am just so proud of the boys and what they are doing.
"We are a big club here and everyone plays their role to get the team ready for the weekend."

Good to know he watches the game much like me! Though this year those swear words are usually attached to a "beauty" or "genius" more often than previous years

BRONCOS prop Josh McGuire is aiming for a shock grand final return after rupturing his Achilles in round 16, less than three months ago.

McGuire has stepped up his rehab in recent weeks and is back jogging on the treadmill.

That leaves him with plenty of hurdles to leap before he’s back in the frame for selection but McGuire refuses to give up completely.

“The Achilles is going really well. I’m already jogging now and I like to tell all the boys that I’ll be back for the grand final,” McGuire told the Fox NRL Market Watch podcast this week.

“Fingers crossed. I like to believe that I can give myself every opportunity.

“ ... Realistically no, but I always have that self-belief that I’m going to keep pushing it as hard as I can and you’re never going to want to rule yourself out of a grand final if you’ve got an opportunity to play in one.”

Brisbane are up to their necks in premiership contention, finishing the regular season in second place.

Their finals campaign kicks off on Saturday with a blockbuster qualifying final match up with Queensland rivals the Cowboys, putting them potentially two wins away from a first grand final since 2006.

But underlining the importance of McGuire to the side, they have won just five of their nine games since he went down with the Achilles injury.

That ratio is far lower than their 17 wins and seven losses over the course of the season, with coach Wayne Bennett no doubt aware of the value McGuire adds to his forward pack.

With that in mind, even the slimmest chances of recovery will be closely monitored and in McGuire’s corner is Justin Hodges and Darius Boyd, who have both rehabilitated serious Achilles injuries.

“Obviously (Justin Hodges) did his as well as Darius Boyd — so definitely been picking their brains a lot,” McGuire said.

“There’s little things that work for me that didn’t work for Hodgy, but we’re all different. We all heal differently.

“Darbs (Boyd) especially, his knowledge and how professional he is with his rehab has been really good, I’ve been talking a lot to him.”

Any kind of hope is worth clinging onto but in the more likely event that McGuire doesn’t get back into the selection picture this season, he is still keen to contribute.

“It is hard, it’s definitely hard watching from the sideline. If I get too filthy I just yell out from the sideline and spray blokes with a bit of heckling, McGuire laughed.

“You just stay involved and I’m at all the meetings and heckling around the coffee shop, getting that bit of team culture around as much as I can.”

As much as I would love to see Mcguire back I don't know if I would want him returning underdone in a grand final.

I doubt Wayne would even entertain the idea of him coming back this season.

As much as we could use him, the risks would be too great.

He is no chance.

But it's good to know he is making good progress in his rehab. Should be fit for pre-season training.

I reckon this is one thing that Bennett will make a coaches call on, sotospeak. He won't risk Moose re aggravating his injury and maybe ruling him out for a period next year just for one game, especially when our forwards seem to be coping well enough without him.

If I were in Bennetts shoes, and Moose came to me and said he wants to play, I can see it being a very difficult situation to be in. If he thinks he is ready, of course you would love to give him the chance to prove it, but is it worth it?

I think it's more a case of keeping positive about his injury and have motivation to do the 0.001%'ers rather then him having a realistic opinion of actually playing in October.

He can do it, go Josh!

Saw Moose at Cairns airport yesterday. Seemed to be walking with a limp. Maybe just how he always walks.
