Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

I do not understand why you would go out that hard, stupid tactics to try and tire the field at a fast tempo when their are genuine stayers in the field. Septimus was never going to win after running out that hard the other horses stay too well to fall off. Sure put the 3 of them at the front but the pace they ran was stupid and they all fell away.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

Well, I won my money back exactly.
Thanks for the tip Cest La Guerre tip Jeb!

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

I got 300 odd bucks out of Bauer coming second woohoo!!

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

I had a feeling a Cummings horse would win it. Backed the wrong one though. At least Bauer came through in the work sweeps.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

After C'est La Guerre placing and the sweep at my second job, I've made a clear profit of around $60 today.

Not great, but I suspect there's many who are far worse off than I [icon_lol1.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

i only went cest la guerre for a win, so i havent won anything today. but if jeuneyman can win the next race at flemington or to spur with love wins next at randwick, ill be even.

So glad I didn't have 2nd place for the win. Losing by heaps (Like Mad Rush did) is much better.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

Thanks to my Dad seeing viewed win the Brisbane Cup I had a tidy sum each way on this one.

I definately owe my Dad a beer, and whoever mentioned cest la guerre I took your advice and again did very nicely so thanks!

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

I got Viewed twice in the sweeps here _woohoo_

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

I didn't get to choose what horses I got.. There were 3 different amounts.

I got first and second int he $5 one and first in the $1 one.. Not bad imo.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

AAAAARRRGGHHH!!!!!! I bet $100 on barbaricus and Ice Chariot. Ice Chariot was no hope but Barbaricus was in the top 4 the whole time and at the last bend just slacked off and everyone took over him [eusa_doh

So now I have to pay $200. SHIT.

OMG you should have heard me everyone who was watching it with me was all quiet and I was screaming the whole time. Everyone thought I was nuts [icon_lol1.

From what I saw today, Septimus was never going to win anyway. He is just a typical European grinder who would never be able to win our Cup. Glad I didn't put a cent on him. Sure they went out hard and he wasn't given his best chance, but fact of the matter is he never ever looked like putting lengths on them from the time he hit the front. The past has proven that races like the Caulfield Cup and Geelong Cup are a much better form guide to the Melbourne Cup than any of the overseas races and today was no exception.

Back in the field was a great run from Zipping. Went past half the field after being last well into the straight. Wasn't given a real good ride but finished off nicely. This bloke deserves a group 1 more than any other horse in the world.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

lol nobody has a clue!

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

I agree Jeb, I think the 3 Irish riders even more so than the 3 horses needed some time to race down here and to race at Flemington. If they had run the horses at the front of the pack rather than at times 5 or 6 lengths in front of the pack Septimus would have had something left in the tank. My only query was the jockey with this horse and to be honest I feel the jockeys and trainer got it way wrong. Zipping as you said ran the house down like always, they never seem to get him in the right spot to mow all of the runners down though.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread

Aidan O'Brien is supposed to be one of the best trainers in the world??? He has a lot to learn about Australian racing if today is anything to go on. Terrible tactics and the wrong type of horses for a race like the cup. Septimus is a grinder (he was ridden terribly) and again so many people got sucked into backing him on hype alone, Honolulu is a marathon horse - totally unsuited to our conditons and the 3yo was just out of his depth. Luca Cumani knows the type of horse to bring and they are willing to come early to give them a run under our conditions.

Huge congratulations to Bart and Blake Shinn - On a hard track I gave Viewed no chance but the master proved he still has it - he is a superb conditioner of horses and a maginficent ride by Shinn got him cup # 12.

Re: Melbouorne Cup Thread
