OFFICIAL Michael Maguire Appointed Head Coach

Yes yes. Ikin was responsible for signing any good player, walsh was responsible for our defence in 2023 and we would have won the grand final if it weren't for that no good rotten Kevin Walters who had been a thorn in our side all year.

Laugh it off and move on, it's the only way to deal with these clowns who think you can possibly fluke a Grand Final, let alone nearly win it.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but I think the following is a good call from Madge and I agree 100%. Reported in the CM

Michael Maguire has put an immediate stamp on the Broncos.

The new Brisbane coach has abolished a rewards system that would have seen Broncos players given extra time off for hitting fitness benchmarks.

It’s understood Brisbane’s full-time squad, including Reece Walsh, Adam Reynolds, Selwyn Cobbo, Pat Carrigan, Kotoni Staggs and Payne Haas, stood to receive another week of annual leave if they reported for pre-season in good shape.

But Maguire has no interest in cheap holidays. The premiership mentor believes reporting for pre-season not overweight should be a basic requirement for a professional NRL player.

Yes, it has been mentioned.

Crazy to think players were getting extra annual leave when they've won nothing and done nothing in the game.

They're given programs before they start holidays to do on holidays because you're not allowed near them- some like Jensen will do it every day plus more some will do it considerably less.

They used to come back for testing and if your testing was at a high level you could have a week off leading into Christmas, the players getting that week off were ones that do the right thing anyway, so it wasn't a risk.

Still not the right way to go about it, in my infantry battalion if someone wasn’t getting it right or out of shape when we come back from time off, we all did extras together. It creates a far better culture.

I’ve done it the other way too and it doesn’t work.

I agree with Madge's thinking to a degree, but he should be looking to find some sort of reward for the ones who do put in, who do the right thing, and turn up fighting fit. The reward can be minor until such times as it becomes the expected norm. But you need to acknowledge your players that are doing the right thing so as to set the example you expect.

Reward is they get to play football for the Brisbane Broncos.

Disagree entirely. You're a professional athlete. Your reward is being paid hundreds of thousands to play sport for a living. No one's forcing you to stick around if you find the fitness requirements to be oppressive.

I find it hard to believe that Cobbo doesn't come back overweight.

Should we be handing out participation awards now as well....?? FMD...... 🙄

Exactly....... today's player is very privileged to be able to do what they do for a living.

The reward is that you haven't let your teammates down by turning up ready to rip in with them.

As @Galah mentioned the hard as **** teams are usually the ones where the whole team is punished if one person let's them down. It creates a culture to be there for your mate.

It's what the storm do... there was something recently about the army camps they do for all the newcomers where on day 2 they force you to stay awake for 24hr straight and keep watch.

Anyone that falls asleep is required to watch all the teammates that didn't fall asleep do extras as punishment.

You sure as shit don't want to be one of the ones that let's everyone down... and that mentality carries through to gameday where you're pushing yourself to keep doing the 1%'ers to not let anyone down.

I don't think making everyone come back at the same time is sensible. You have to look at the workload they have earned had and manage them accordingly. Carrigan for example would benefit from a little more time off, Cobbo or Payne wouldn't.

Carrigan is playing in the tests so unlike most of the others his 8 weeks leave hasn't started yet

Fair. Don't know if we need any of them having more leave this off season though. Obviously not including the guys who are in the Rep teams.
