ANTHONY Milford has only had one day back at training but is already contemplating a new centre pairing at the Broncos next year.
The young half returned this morning ready to start just his second pre-season with the Broncos.
The last season ended with him playing in a grand final after establishing himself as one of the superstars of the game.
But 2016 is going to throw up an early challenge for the Broncos, with two new centres needed for round one.
Captain Justin Hodges has retired, and Jack Reed's off-season shoulder surgery is expected to sideline him for the first few rounds.
Reed did an amazing job aiding Milford in defence last year, so there is going to have to be some work on a new combination in the pre-season.
New Kiwi Test rep Jordan Kahu and Queensland Emerging Origin squad member Dale Copley will most likely fill the breech.
"Obviously 'Hodgo' leaves a massive gap in the centres," said Milford this morning after he finished some mandatory testing at the University of Queensland.
"But I'm sure Kahu or Copley or whoever gets the nod there will do a tremendous job for us.
"There is not many things we (need to) change this year - we just need to be that one per cent better.
"My partner in crime (Reed) will be missing for a bit but whoever fills that spot will do the job.
"We will just wait for 'Reedy' to come back and I'm sure he'll be at his best when he does."
It was a tough long run performance staff put returnees like Milford, Joe Ofahengaue and Jarrod Wallace through this morning.
But with the Broncos playing until October this year, only a short pre-Christmas training period beckons.
Before they know it January will be here and the Auckland Nines will be just a few weeks away.
"It's good to see some familiar faces around the joint bringing that good vibe again," said Milford.
"I'm looking forward to a tough three weeks (of training) and then it is game on again.
"It's good to be around the boys again.
"I am more into the short and sharp stuff and long distance isn't really my thing.
"It (today) was pretty tough."
