New South Wales 2014 Line-Ups

Farah is going to be fit for Origin 1 and I expect him to be there. He's been so excellent for them that he warrants being picked on a short prep.

Also, I'd personally (if I wanted NSW to win) pick Jorge Taufua. IMO no winger in the world has been as outstanding as Taufua in the last year. That said, I fully expect NSW to pick Tupou instead.

Thought I read a comment on Taufua. I agree Ari, the guy is a beast, I'd hate for him to be picked. There is every chance they won't though. As usual NSW get caught up in the flashy stuff. I think they may pick

Dugan
Morris
Jennings
Morris
Hayne

which suits me just fine, Qld have been there and done it.

What's interesting is that Pat Richards' name is being mentioned a fair bit of late. It makes sense I guess -- NSW will be kicking off a lot, might as well pick a specialist at it.

Worst case scenario if Bird is out;

Bird goes out and is replaced by Luke Lewis/Beau Scott or Anthony Watmough with one of those guys on the bench. Fifita is also a manageable.

If Bird is out of Game 1 it will be a big blow but Lewis, Scott and Watmough are very capable players of succeeding and the team will still be a good one and hard to beat.

Fifita and bird are huge losses for NSW and they are definitely not easily replaced. Watmough, scott and lewis, while good, do not posses the same attitude, mongrel and offload that bird does. Fifita's likely replacement will be woods. Woods is great in NRL, but is just not mobile and quick enough for origin. Fifita is a massive, massive loss for them. I wouldnt be surprised if they bring in Trex. Hes found some form and replaces some of the size and aggression that fifita and bird wouldve brought

I hope they bring in Trex, that would be a typical NSW selection. I agree he has found some form but he hasn't got a lot of ticker, goes missing when the really hard stuff is on.

You're right that Bird being absent is a huge loss, If I was in his shoes I would just cop the minimum suspension and fire up for the 2nd and 3rd game. His replacements will make up for it with passion and determination.

Yeah Bird's going to fight it. Got a bad feeling he'll lose and miss the whole series. Then again, Lozza might call in a favour.

That's all kinds of awesome! But, who designed that? They deserve credit for it?

The silly designer should have put there name or URL on it..

Sportsbet designed it. I got it from their facebook page.

All credit goes to them, of course. They did a remarkable job. Gave me quite the laugh.

I actually tried it out. I got Josh Reynolds.

It's a tough assignment for New South Wales.

They'll go into the series with the weaker team on foreign turf and all the momentum is going to go against them. I kind of feel like this is the best opportunity to blood some players, bring forward a couple of new guys who will appreciate the opportunity and could thrive in the arena. The trick is trying to make it work as a team.

1. Jarryd Hayne
2. Jorge Taufua
3. Will Hopoate
4. Michael Jennings
5. Brett Morris
6. James Maloney
7. Adam Reynolds
8. Aaron Woods
9. Robbie Farah
10. Aiden Tolman
11. Luke Lewis
12. Boyd Cordner
13. Paul Gallen

14. James Tamou
15. Trent Merrin
16. Tariq Sims
17. Anthony Watmough

Not ideal but with players in the form they're in, injuries and suspensions it is difficult to really suggest much else.

Taufua - Must play on the left.

Hopoate - Plays on the right, and he gets the nod because I believe he has genuine class and has a nice combination with Hayne who will be a key member of this side.

Maloney - Keeps his spot because I rate him over Reynolds and Mullen isn't ready to return.

Reynolds - Again, not ideal. Pearce as far as I'm concerned is done and Brooks isn't ready yet. Don't think we can have J Reynolds or Mullen switch from their position either.

Woods - Not a huge fan, but with Fifita gone, I want a player with a bit of size and I really hope Woods plays with a devil may care attitude.

Tolman - Because I think NSW need a good all-round workhorse type player who can roll their sleeves up. Fensom isn't in the frame, Tolman is the closest player they have.

Lewis - Important to have a player with class and experience. Not necessarily a fan, but can do a job.

Cordner - Is a better fringe runner than Watmough and I think a better defensive player too.

No bench utility - I just think they're a waste at this level. Only player I'd consider is Peats.

So Bird get 2 weeks pre origin. What did Dave Taylor get a couple of years ago pre origin for a similar tackle.we all know NRL stands for NSW rugby league. Disgraceful decision.
