If KW wanted the job and could coach he'd prove it with the cattle he's given. You'd have to think the bars been set pretty low so why not take the chance, I mean if you really wanted the job.

Added bonus would be a small salary risked and the club would demonstrate to KW that they very much held the whip. It's cool to disagree with me but please answer my question.

Calm down, mate, it wasn't even @kooly87 who you initially responded to, but me, so the fact he didn't answer your question is neither here nor there. In any case, @abashii answered your question above before I had the chance to.

And I happen to agree with kooly's points about offering Walters a one year deal. In my opinion, it's unrealistic to expect him to make significant strides in that short of a time, under the current circumstances, and under that kind 'do-or-die' pressure. As much as he might love the club and covet the head coaching role, I also believe that it's an insult to him to say, 'Hey, we kind of want you to be coach but we're also not sure, but we think you'll be desperate enough to accept these scraps we're throwing off our kitchen table. Here, dig in.' In the current climate he'd be far better off sticking with his guaranteed jobs at Fox and the QRL rather than rolling the dice on a poisoned chalice, but if you believe that isn't the case that's also valid. That's the wonderful thing about opinions.

There seems to be something of a prevailing belief that players, and now coaches, should be happy to take unders to come to the Broncos, and I just don’t understand it. They should expect to get the equivalent contract that their skills and experience would gain them on the open market. If anything, I’m shocked we won’t have to pay overs to someone to come in and try and put out the dumpster fire that the Broncos currently are. Certainly that’s why the best candidates are relatively inexperienced, or are other club’s cast offs. And that’s more practically where Kevvie’s desire to coach us, as well as an apparent lack of other opportunities available to him, should benefit both parties. Kevvie gets the opportunity to put together two to three years of quality football to establish that he is a decent or better coach, and the Broncos secure him on what should be a fair and reasonable contract commensurate with his experience.

Sproj, you say that with authority, but Gentle has coached more first grade than Walters.

If we take for granted the argument their opinion is of no value, we should still end up choosing Walters anyway as he's the contender most likely to rebuild the club's winning culture.

That's dead right .. we need someone who's already fought and bled for the club. Imagine the nightmare scenario where we appoint someone who is a "career coach" with no connection to us .. whilst Kevvie hops on a plane to Mascot to join the Dragons and later returns to Suncorp (a la Bennett) to kick the tar out of us ... I can see him flicking the bird to the Broncos faithful as he leaves.

I am calm and was calm. So, you got it wrong about my first choice then. My first choice has never been Gentle. My first choice has ALWAYS been Flanagan. I did suggest a way to deal with the ban which involved Gentle doing a 12 month stint as caretaker with Flanagan as assistant for the period before taking over the following season.

Suggesting a quick fix to get some spirit back with a trial period is not the same as endorsing KW. I'd prefer Flanagan for 21 whatever way I'd have to arrange it. Gentle ACT as head coach but Flanagan could be the power behind the throne.

As for your other claims I'm sure some have a little merit but I believe they'd be taken in KWs stride if he truly wanted the job. If KW can truly coach this current squad are more than capable of beating at least half of the teams out there. It doesn't matter a damn about 22 or 23. It doesn't matter about getting other players in. Why? Because I was talking about a QUICK FIX SOLUTION which can be easily seen from my post. If you told KW he has 21 as a trial, told him this is your player acquisition fund, do you want to give it a lash? He'd probably take it.

That's if he really really wants to coach the Broncos. I don't see the insult because everyone including KW knows, KWs a rookie. I reckon he'd be like a seagull on a chip.

Yes, would be decent of you to acknowledge you ASSUMED, and was wrong that you knew who my first choice for coach was despite me writing I wanted Flanagan as coach on no less than six previous occasions.

Flanagan may be a decent coach, but he's got one of the most punchable faces in the game. Not sure I could get behind him.

actually first grade club footy ... Walters only takes the lead (for games played) if you include Origin

Walters coached 57 games in the ESL (winning % of 37%)
Walters coached 64 games in the ESL (winning % of 53%)
