The fact that Kevvie raised one of his sons to NRL level (or was there more than one?) tells me his man management is pretty good. The young player group needs a dad figure to rev them up and bring out their best more than the geeky older brother trying to be cool (Seibold). Also given Walters was attacking coach in 2015 and has competed well in an Origin rebuilding period after the break-up of that legendary spine means he is worth a shot.
I wouldn't expect an instant premiership but would expect the 30+ point drubbings to stop pretty fast. He wants the broncos coaching job, not some other club coaching job. Means he still has pride in the jersey and would not tolerate the phone-in efforts that have become normal.
I am particularly drawn to his experience and history in good outcomes coaching our halves to a GF appearance in 2015, that under his tutelage, Milford and Hunt became possibly the best halves pairing in '15 and until Hunt left. Given the situation with our halves this year, individual performances, combinations and as part of our spine, I can only see good things happening with Walters' coaching this critically important area. I think he would bring out the absolute best in Dearden and Milford, as well as our other halves.
