Next Broncos coach

Who should it be?

The fact that Kevvie raised one of his sons to NRL level (or was there more than one?) tells me his man management is pretty good. The young player group needs a dad figure to rev them up and bring out their best more than the geeky older brother trying to be cool (Seibold). Also given Walters was attacking coach in 2015 and has competed well in an Origin rebuilding period after the break-up of that legendary spine means he is worth a shot.

I wouldn't expect an instant premiership but would expect the 30+ point drubbings to stop pretty fast. He wants the broncos coaching job, not some other club coaching job. Means he still has pride in the jersey and would not tolerate the phone-in efforts that have become normal.

I am particularly drawn to his experience and history in good outcomes coaching our halves to a GF appearance in 2015, that under his tutelage, Milford and Hunt became possibly the best halves pairing in '15 and until Hunt left. Given the situation with our halves this year, individual performances, combinations and as part of our spine, I can only see good things happening with Walters' coaching this critically important area. I think he would bring out the absolute best in Dearden and Milford, as well as our other halves.

I did think btw that that was what you meant however, I wanted to say what I did because recruitment and player contracts have been such big issues for us in the recent past, and also, for a position as important as GM of Football Operations, like you said, I want to know exactly how and where it fits into the organisation, especially going forward with our new coach, and relationships and accountabilities. You know, that word, accountabilities, that strange and almost foreign term at the Broncos of late.
I WANT to know. Not I'd like to know or it's my preference, no. I demand an answer because because because...

Yeah, that too.

Glad to see you're on board buddy. We can't go wrong now.

I have no doubt Walters would find a way to spark our attack. He did wonders for us back in '15 and has said he knows how to get the best out of Milf.

However, i feel our defence is where most of our problems lie.

Can he fix that ?

He has to. It's perhaps our single biggest issue, along with a lack of go forward.

The poor defence tells me just how important it is to have a fulltime top line defensive coach - like Kearney. Our defence in 2015 was outstanding under his coaching. It's been going downhill since, until we are left with what we now have - vestiges of that 2015 style but with no coordination and communication.

Defence is certainly on the players, but given our young squad, serious coaching is essential

He just needs to hire someone who can :)

the longer this goes on the less it seems to me that either Green or Walters are the guys they will go to...

No reason to not announce it if either of them were legit...they are free and available basically.....no reason to not have done it already..

Unless....its someone else...?

Thing about Kevvie; he has lost his shit at least twice now in past Origin series....and that is only three games a year...

I dont see him as a long term option, and he absolutely needs the right support aorund him if indeed the club does turn to him...

But.....the longer this goes the less faith i have that its either of these guys....

If Kevvie has already been selected and he is having input into the playing roster, he wants Offa gone yet he gave him his Origin debut..??

That makes no sense...

Not necessarily concerning Joffa. He has seemingly regressed but when he made his debut, he was playing his role very well. Joffa is worth keeping around but is on too much money for what he is delivering.

Funny, I came in here to post the exact same thing. If it is going to either Kevvie or Green it makes no sense not to have decided/announced it by now. Certainly I think it rules out Green because he has been available for ages. I guess it could be Kevvie and they don’t want to announce until after origin but we have players to keep and sign and neither will want to commit until they know who the coach is.

Leaving out potential ineptitude by our administration (which is possible) the longer this goes on the less likely it is either of them. Either it is a currently contracted coach that they won’t announce until the season’s over or they are going after a Bellamy or Bennett and Kevvie or Green is the fallback.

Origin’s not til November so it’ll be before then according to Lockyer. If it’s Kevvie it could be delayed until the QRL sort out who will fill in for him (Wayne or Paul Green) which seems pretty plausible. The preseason will start later this year than usual so the club might just be taking their time.

Me too.
First to admit it’s a funny old world and things aren’t always as they seem. But I share the same feeling the longer it goes on the less likely it’s either Walters or Greeny.

Either they can’t make their mind up or negotiations can’t be worked out just yet.

But then again doubt anyone else is in the mix. So just adds to the confusion.

I suppose the other argument is that there are no other coaching vacancies now I don't think (unless I am forgetting someone), so there really isn't a rush to get someone before another club does.

I think the QRL have already shown their hand that Bennett will be taking over if a replacement at short notice is required for Walters.

I think the most likely scenarios for the delays are:

1. Management ineptitude - because honestly, it's been repeatedly proven that the current administration couldn't organise their way out of a wet paper bag without fucking it up, so this is easily the most likely scenario.

2. They're entertaining Walters and/or Green, but recognise that both, particularly Walters, will require an overhaul of our Coaching infrastructure and personnel if they go down that path, so that adds to how complicated getting everything in place is and would explain a lot of the delay.

3. They've actually pulled off a masterstroke and secured Bellamy or another coaching gun - see our most likely option above though as to why this outcome is a very, very distant third in probability.

How genuinely sad is it that a few years ago not only would we be assuming option 3, you would not even have written option 1 as it would have been absurd.
Now we all just resign ourselves to option 1. :(

That's what White and Morris have done to us. Absolutely bottled the culture and shitcanned the club. No wonder Benny was on the nose with them, they probably couldn't stand anyone who put the team before the spreadsheets.

It's just struck me this morning that I'm suffering from PPSD (Post Pies Stress Disorder). When I'm browsing RL sites, everytime a picture of Pies flashes up I get a bit anxious and I swear like I've got Tourettes syndrome.
