i get all that i personally just still feel if you deliberatlty take someone off the ball to stop them grounding then it should be 10 in bin regardless.

just a personal rule i wish they would change to make guys think twice about deliberate taking out someone in act of scoring

Gus "NSW didn't lose tonight".
Fatty "Umm. 6. To. 4".
10 in the bin + 6 pts for a professional foul? That’s an overkill

However, if it was a dangerous play like a head high or a punch then yeah 10 + the PT makes sense. Especially if the other team loses a player.

so the fact manly were able to still score 22 points with one man down is impressive. tells me manly are a team to watch and also that souths defense is a little fragile.

Makes me feel a little more confident playing them next week and coming away with a win

Only if it's a penalty try. You can still do a professional foul outside of scoring opportunities. That's just 10 in the bin.

Pretty sure Jazz got dumped on his head last year(or year before) and there wasn't even a penalty.

Always found it interesting that a dud ref call that denies a team a try such as the forward pass called on manly there only illicits a mute response from commentary like " do you think that was forward?....maybe" like **** maybe! That was clearly not forward and it ribbed manly of a try in a game which they've busted their guts! Like for **** sake can we kick up more of a stick when refs make clearly shit calls!!!

Where that becomes an issue is like a recent origin series... I think there was a game (or maybe a series) where there were two penalty try situations in a very short timeframe... and I think both were off kicks where a chaser was taken out.

One was a prof foul and one was a penalty try.

I think the penalty try was against NSW and Gagai was about 15m from the ball.

In that situation does the defender really deserve 10 in the bin and the try conceded against them... when the defender only slightly moved off his line and Gagai milked it for all it was worth... tonight's was blatant, but there isn't a separate ruling for those kind of situations.

disagree completely.

I frown on professional foul more then you obviously. your happy with an accidental head high being sent to bin but not deliberately breaking the rules?
Your outright cheating when you get done for professional foul.

you know your breaking the rules but you just dont care you do it anyway because you feel the punishment doesn't outweigh letting the play happen.

I hate that more then anything in this sport and anything we can do to eradicate it im all for.

fair point but even after thinking about it if given the choice i would still prefer a player get 10 in bin for deliberately breaking the rules to stop a player scoring

Classy response from DCE in the interview re the tackle. His kicking same is top notch.

Good leaders create a good culture.

If a guy is definitely gonna score and you deliberately hold him back, then I think 2 points extra is a fair punishment.

If you deliberately stand off side you’re still breaking the rules and you get penalised.

If you deliberately lift a guy between the legs and attempt to spear tackle - you break the rules - penalty and a send off.

Throw a punch. Break the rules. Auto 10 in the bin.

My point is - the punishment has to fit the crime. And not all crimes are the same

Shhhhh plenty of blokes on Silvertails would take you to task for saying that crazy stuff

Unfortunately it was just more of the same from the Gold Coast. I thought Brimson out the back looked more likely but they're still playing like a group of individuals that lack direction. A few of their players really stepped up for them, namely Fa'asuamaleaui but he just didn't receive enough support. They still look like they're just going through the motions trying to get a feel for each other's game which leads to a lot of aimless sets where they just kick and hope. I think the play against Penrith is to continually try to get them on the inside, they slide well but if you can get them charging at their dummy halves or some of their forwards they can really be found wanting.

Penrith well and truly off their game but even then they could just string enough good plays to get it done and back their defence.

Strange game between Manly-Souths. Manly were brave but it was a lot like last week where they found themselves in an awful position, they tried their luck but ultimately were always going to be out-gunned. Souths looked a little hesitant but were still well drilled enough to put on points and make it look easy.

Kept a close eye on Tass. I thought he played well, made a few strong carries out of trouble and had a good battle with Koula who looked up to it. Finished with a try and a try assist, certainly earned himself another start against Kotoni next week.

You might be thinking of Game II 2018, Boyd Cordner and Gavin Cooper. The video referee paid the Cordner penalty try but sent Roberts to the bin on the Cooper try. I believe the difference was that the Blues had players closer to the football whereas nobody was at the back for the Maroons.

Then in Game II 2019 Will Chambers received a penalty try after Wighton interfered.
