CROSS FORUM NRL 2022 Round 8 Discussion

In that final set before half time, why didn't Manly just lay all over Souths?

They could have given away six agains to take time off the clock.

We could have but Atkins probably would have sent one of us to the bin.

You might be thinking of Game II 2018, Boyd Cordner and Gavin Cooper. The video referee paid the Cordner penalty try but sent Roberts to the bin on the Cooper try. I believe the difference was that the Blues had players closer to the football whereas nobody was at the back for the Maroons.

Then in Game II 2019 Will Chambers received a penalty try after Wighton interfered.
They're the ones... thought it was Cordner and could recall one of them was on left side of the posts.

Thought it was Gags when he was playing left center but Cordner doesnt play right side... so it must've been Cordner's try that I was thinking of.

You dont get binned for a professional foul if the penalty try is given

It's a bit of a double edged sword - being a player down for 10mins can lead to more points so l reckon there'd be plenty of times a team would prefer a player sent to the bin and get the penalty.
Just say we were in front - a player gets sent for 10, we take the 2 pts and load up again v we get 6 points but the player stays on.
I'm on the side of penalty try and sin bin in that situation.

How the **** do you remember that?!
I still have the tumour Gus gave me when he shouted penalty try ad nauseum until they gave it.

Admittedly I googled the Chambers incident looking to verify. I had no memory of Queensland scoring that game, I just remember Cleary getting away with a blatant strip on Kaufusi and it being all over from that point. Oh and that moment when Turbo jumped over Ponga to score and it felt like a sign of things to come. Here's a replay:

I feel like the NRL typically takes the lesser of two evils in those situations.

If it's worse for 10 in the bin then they'll just give it a penalty try and be done with it... like if it's the last 10mins of a close grand final the bunker wont be keen to send someone to the bin so they'll just pay the try.

However if a team is well behind and there's any sort of question marks around a possible try.... then they'll happily send them to the bin

but i still dont think lodge is a grub on the field all his hate is for that incident in US.

And i have no problem calling our own player a grub. Gamble for instance is a grub but hes our grub.

Walker as well i could accept playing for us he would be like gamble. Latrell is a bit different for me dont know why but even if he was in broncs colours i wouldn't be a huge fan of some of the trash he dishes up
Gamble is a pest. I'd strongly disagree that he's a grub though.

I've yet to see Gamble behaving like a grub. There has been no send offs for foul play and no sin bins for anything underhand.

That's a reasonable distinction. Walker's all hands/forearms in faces on the ground etc. Tyson just plays aggressive and gets mouthy. Like a chihuahua.

Without that send off, Manly win it by plenty lastnight. Souths utterly unconvincing, very brave from Manly. They will be thereabouts again, Souths will probably scratch into the 8 but I also won't be surprised if they miss out. The Bennett effect in full swing...

Souths were good coming out of their own end.
With good line speed and the same attitude as Thursday night we should be able to score a season double on the Bunnies next week.

Every day is a vacation for the Titans… absolute amateurs
… could never see them coming close to beating us… hang on…

Smash em bro

Well done Manly, your boys were brave last night but always up against it playing with 12 for 70 minutes. Some very dumb plays by Tapau did not help.

awful game - it stops at the titan's halves - anyone else other than Sexton in there and they win that game - Penrith have been ordinary, vulnerable on the left side, Yeo as first receiver is their go to variation. Really unimpressed with both teams
I cant for the life of me see why Jamal Fogarty was let go-he was the captain too, a good half.

Mind you he has been injured all year so who knows.

I thought Will Smith went well made a great try saving tackle which was a really balls out effort.

Fifita has a responsibility to call and want the ball…

Not hiding in the corner or in no mans land…

1.2m take some ownership and get involved son
Was at the game. The play makers just did not give him ball.
He had a deal of strapping on one leg and seemed to have a limp when he went off--maybe an injury.
Sam 4n20 pie Lisone put in a good couple of stints.

Clearly eye gouging isn’t worthy of a send off
