CROSS FORUM NRL 2023 Round 18 Discussion

Nelson on an edge sounds great in theory but any team that gets even share of ball just needs to run at him for the bulk of the game.
Yeah there is huge downsides to having such a big body on the edge, it's not suitable for the sliding defence, the only way to make it work is rattle that edge early and hope they shut off rather then keep pushing it.

Sounds easy, but if he's running through your half every second touch... like he did to Ezra... then you're no chance of getting an even share against him.

But yes it would seem the best approach is to just keep sending traffic his way, but to also get him making decisions constantly.

He kept rushing out of the line on a half skipping across in front of him, and was then unsure on the decoys and block plays around him.

That Luai kick was pretty sweet. To'o is also a gun. Yeo is an asset. So glad these ***** are unlikable, because **** them if they were decent blokes.

That try just comes off the back of simple footy executed well. Yeo running it to the line, timing the pass perfectly to Leota right as he's hit max acceleration and the Storm middle is running on empty. It gave Luai all the time in the world and he picked the right zone, stepping back inside before kicking across the ruck.

To'o coming in-field and making himself an option is just what makes them so good.

They're quality players on their own, but they're champions when they're working together.

Yeah, you really have to disrupt their connections and know their plays. Takes so much effort in the middle to stop that roll on. Problem comes when the ruck isn't being controlled equally.

You can certainly do it if you aren't getting murdered by a ref officially noted to be not up to standard and dropped the next week. Would never happen though.

They're like the Dragons under Bennett, if you want to beat them you have to match their intensity and go set for set.

You can't blink and throw a chancey offload because if you give them an inch, you won't see the football again until you're completely exhausted.

Early points are a premium and if you can establish a lead they'll begin to second guess themselves.

Even then though, they were 14-0 down tonight and on the back of a shocking try call away in Melbourne.

Stuck to their systems, stuck it to Melbourne and in a 10 minute period took the lead.

Pretty impressive.

It was a quality win, with that said Melbourne can be equally disappointed with their efforts. 68% completions, 43% of the ball and once Warbrick went off they were always going to do it tough. Especially since the Warbrick exit resulted directly in points.

With the NAS try, the amendment to the grounding rule this year, groundings like the one from NAS is literally what that rule is referring to, when the ball comes away from the hand but doesn't separate from the wrist/forearm.

Not sure why they were talking about the left hand, the ball never separating from the right wrist/forearm was enough.
