Pretty sure they're between a rock and a hard place on this one...damned either way

any potential breech, would be far less than the cost of putting the NRMA sponsorship at risk by promoting a rival company.

the NRL can go **** themselves put putting the Broncos in that position, i can't imagine that of it was a Sydney club, the NRL would have wanted them to put their major sponsorship at risk.

we have had this sponsorship long before the NRL even contemplated a "magic round"

the club statement say that the NRL were aware that we would not be participating in this event and the reasons for it.

besides we have provided the ground for this event, isn't that enough :P

Clickbait once again. Greenberg was not 'fuming' and the NRL were fully aware we'd not be attending. It sounds like half the other 'representatives were all ex-Broncos anyway.

apparently Petero even switched to a Broncos polo at one stage, lol

Then again, Broncos do play at Suncorp Stadium...

Keyword being Suncorp, a fellow rival brand.

The Broncos are bigger than the NRL (there wouldn't be a comp without us) so who cares.

In this case, the Broncos are in the right IMO.

They can't promote a rival brand, it's just stupid. Plus, the Broncos have been doing their share in promoting the Magic Round. They just didn't turn up to this event.

Oh 100%, they made the right choice IMO, but this is the obvious backlash that fans of rival clubs will no doubt relish in. I actually saw a FB post from some peanut saying "HA! Another reason to hate the fucking Ponies. Couldn't give 2 shits about the sport" Wankers everywhere.

I love how they say we are "under fire" from Todd Greenberg, that "NRL officials were left furious" and that "the event descended into high farce"

And all based on these quotes.....

“This was one of the major promotions for Magic Round so clearly our preference would have been for all clubs to be represented,” he said.

“However it shouldn’t take the focus off what will be a wonderful event for Brisbane.

“Our clubs will be participating in a range of initiatives and activities over the course of the round.”

Would be nice if the Broncos started black listing reporters putting out obvious garbage.

See how your career turns out when you can't contact anyone at the only club in the city you're reporting in.

Agree with a previous post that it was click bait. The quotes they had were hardly the NRL fuming and the Broncos quote explained the whole thing away.

Fucking garbage from the courier fail

Broncos refuse to back down over Magic Round promo snub

Phil Lutton - May 8, 2019 — 4.49pm

The Broncos have refused to back down from a decision not to send a representative to a Magic Round event in Brisbane, making them the only club not to take part in the major promotion. Fifteen of the 16 NRL clubs had representatives at the Million Dollar Kick in Brisbane's King George Square, where fans could try to kick a football through a goal and then into a basketball hoop in the hope of striking it rich. But Brisbane were noticeably absent, a move that wasn't appreciated by the NRL as it tries to promote the first Magic Round, which sees every match played at Suncorp Stadium from Thursday until Sunday.

The Million Dollar Kick was sponsored by insurance company Youi, which is a direct rival of NRMA, a long-time major sponsor at Red Hill. In a statement, Brisbane said they had 'opted out' of the event and their stance had been 'fully endorsed' by the NRL the previous night. “The Brisbane Broncos’ partnership with major sponsor NRMA Insurance explains why the club opted against sending a representative to an event promoting a rival insurance brand as part of the NRL’s Magic Round,” the Broncos said in a statment. “NRMA Insurance is one of the club’s contracted 'protected partners' – which means the club cannot take part in anything that promotes a rival brand in the same category.

“Once the Broncos discovered today’s (Wednesday's) promotional event was sponsored by another insurance brand, the club opted out – and informed the NRL.“The NRL fully endorsed that course of action as recently as last (Tuesday) night, and we make we make no apology for standing with our long-term partners NRMA Insurance.
“In saying that, the Broncos have done more than any club over the past month to help promote Magic Round across the club’s social media channels, promotional emails to members and player media appearances.”
The Broncos had two players, Matt Gillett and captain Darius Boyd, at the Magic Round launch on Tuesday while coach Anthony Seibold will conduct his regular pre-match press conference at Red Hill on Thursday, ahead of their clash with Manly on Friday night.
