NEWS NRL fumes after Brisbane Broncos fail to turn up at Magic Round promotional gig

So there were at least 3 ex-Broncos there whose best football was played at the Broncos and are remembered more as Broncos than any other club / code they played for.

Nothing to see here.

Pretty sure they're between a rock and a hard place on this one...damned either way
Indeed - but I’d even go one further.

NRMA does and has supported the Broncos for a long time.

When was the last time the NRL did anything to help, rather than simply exploit, the Broncos.

OK fine we should pay the fine. Right after the nrl and the Sydney clubs pay us back the TV money we get them to keep their broke clubs alive by playing Thursday nights, making us lose $100,000s in crowd and membership revenue due to the poor scheduling for live fans, and they scrap the cap - which without it we would win the comp year after year after year as we are the only financially viable entity year after year... Oh its not fair they say because there is only one brisbane team? Well then, which 4 Sydney teams do they nominate to scrap? And by all means introduce another SEQ team, I'm sure they'll dominate us (crushers say hi, also Sydney clubs will lose brisbane fans-brisbane fans won't lose brisbane fans, this will shock them, and it will give us another Derby and it will take away a tiny bit of power from Sydney and mean we travel less whilst also taking a tiny bit of pressure off of us, so PLEASE DO)...

Rant almost over, **** the Sydney ran nrl, I'm over it these last 2 years. And I'm not the only one. Super league should have won, the game would be 20 years ahead of where it is now.every single good idea the nrl gets praised for now are ones the bloody super league proposed 20 fucking years ago

Pretty poor of the broncos to not send a couple of reps in their HOME city at a time the clubs image is taking an absolute pounding.
Surely it’s in NRMA’s best interest to have the club reflected positively at a time like this and scraping together some goodwill. More damage was done to their brand rather than any good publicity YOUI would have received.

Yeah the article is click bait but It’s still a BS decision from the club imo.

Relax guys, it's back to us against them now. Isn't that what always made the Broncos great in the first place? Haven't we always endured our periods of greatest success when this is the case? F**k the NRL and the Sydney media, they don't have our interests at heart ever and why would we want or expect any different?

I don't want Phil Gould patronising us and our young roster. I don't want Matty Johns talking us up as Premiership threats. I love it when they hate us and especially when it really stings them when we're successful right in their faces.

We play at Suncorp stadium 12 times a year. Suncorp are a massive insurance company as well as a bank. No conflict there? Should have just sent someone with a massive NRMA logo on their shirt.

NRMA is an exclusive partner, they would have breached their contract with NRMA potentially, do you think it would be worth losing them as a sponsor over a promotional thing for the NRL?

It’s a bit different, especially seeing that insurance is not all that Suncorp do like Youi.

People need to stop looking to the NRL or the media, especially in Sydney, for a fair go, or to treat us nicely or even respectfully.

We've been successful for a really long time, the best part of three decades now. Some of the people with their knives out now have waited their entire careers for a chance to kick the Broncos while they're down. Let's face it, we are down right now and you have to expect that the chance to exact some small semblance of revenge for 30 years of pulling their pants down year in year out is going to be far too tempting for a lot of these guys to pass up.

Just don't forget how much it stings though, and when we get back up of the canvas before long and go back to bending them over again on a regular basis, it'll be all the more sweeter when you can rub their faces in it. We're the bad guys, the evil empire, lets just embrace it because it's what we've always done best.

Nice in theory but it simply isn’t true. The Broncs were the bench mark through the 90s and probably through to 2006 but the Storm have easily been the benchmark since due to cheating, etc. Nowadays, the Broncs are also rans and it has been that way now for about ten years, with one or two exceptions.

And no fan of Rugby league would give one shit about this. Magic round will be just fine.

It's not like the Broncos can just decline to play at Suncorp though, is it?

Now watch the refs royally **** us over on Friday

Any doubt? It's Ben Dickhead Cummins. Have we ever won a game when he's the reff? Even if our guys try real hard to get a W, reffs will ensure that we are screwed royally.

Broncos were already playing at Suncorp when NRMA came on board. They knew that going into the sponsorship deal.
