Maybe I'm being too harsh on young Walsh. At that young age you're totally lacking experience and wisdom, so he probably thought getting the big dollars and a chance at NRL provided the cash for his young family and allowed him to show the world what he could do.

If only he had the same maturity as a young Carrigan as it would have allowed him to see that what Kevvie was telling was for his own good.

Even now, he could come back to the Broncos on a lower wage and he would still make up for the lost revenue in the long run. I'm sure given the right coaching (are you listening Jamayne?) he'd easily surpass Ponga and cement a spot in the FB for Queensland in a year or two.

As it stands he'll be ordering pizza on origin nights for many a year to come.

How the Warriors did a sell job on Walsh and hoodwinked him should be a lesson to all young up and coming Queenslanders. They might promise you the world, but in reality all they can deliver is a cold wet destination that even their coach is mad keen to avoid.
You can understand Coates going to the Storm for less money, perfectly rational thinking. Have to question the advice given to Walsh however, considering the Broncos were giving him a clear pathway.

I wonder if Coates was a scenario of the player giving his management team the direction and Walsh was a scenario of the manager not thinking long term? In any event neither Walsh or Coates are playing origin now.

I thought Coates was listed to play on the left wing this Wednesday night though.

Oh you are right, so his decision looks to have done ok, assuming he's happy with the financial outcome. The Storm do make players look better unfortunately. Just look at what's happening with JAC this year :)

I'm pleased NSW have left the Fox out of game one. He brings so much more than just on field smarts. But yeh, playing in a bottom scrambling Dogs side will not showcase your merits at all.

Something for Walsh to also consider with the Warriors. If origin match payments do go back up to pre-covid rates - he's missing out on a potential extra 90K a year. Add to this the huge boost his porfessional profile gains from being involved in the whole origin hype.

I don't think it's even being smart with the benefit of hindsight. Choosing the Warriors over the Broncos was a very brave call with a lot of career risk I would say, I remember 1910 saying his manager was trying to be the big dog during negotiations, maybe that had something to do with it.

Nathan Brown gone, Stacey Jones caretaker coach.

You can begrudge Walsh for leaving.

He left for a big money offer, and because the Warriors promised to forgo his proper development and throw him straight into the NRL side.

If you were him, could you honestly say you wouldn't do the same?

Take off the Broncos hat, of course we all wanted him to bide his time.

I can 1000% say I wouldn't have done the same thing.

I would have backed myself to do the hard work for the 6 weeks, Kev wanted me to do in the QLD Cup

I would have certainly backed myself to beat out Isaako for the role, and then backed myself to prove I belonged in the NRL, which would have potentially opened up a better offer from the Broncos.

Riccio has said the Kristian Woolf has emerged as the front runner and that it is "understood" Cameron Ciraldo would not be interested in a move to NZ

You wouldn't have taken the money at 18 years old with a kid on the way?

I don't buy it.

nope, because i would have backed myself to get more.

i've never been one to rush into a decision

In a profession where the average length of a career is under 50 games, you would have taken the money just like everyone else would have when they saw the amount quadrupled.

Just plain WRONG

Dunno but that's 3 coaches gone already
