Barret getting the boot has forced a few hands I think. The Warriors and Tigers couldn't sit on the fence anymore or they'd risk missing out on who they wanted and being left with the dregs. There's only 2 NRL proven coaches available atm in Flanno and Green. Plus 2 unknowns in Woolf and Ciraldo.

so in the space of a few hours, Gould has well and truly lost his head start in securing the best available coach.

Cameron Ciraldo seems to be the favourite of all three clubs on the lookout for a new coach. However, it seems he isn't interested in two of those clubs, and I can't seem him choosing the Tigers for his first coaching gig.

Kristian Woolfe seems to be the next favourite of both the Warriors and Tigers.

I'm not sure if Flanagan is the right coach for the Tigers, they just sacked a hard taskmaster, i'm not sure if they would perform for a new one.

interesting days ahead

Feel sorry for Madge... tigers are a shambles and it would appear a lack of desire by the playing group has led to his downfall rather than inability from the coach.

I dont think he'll be out of a job for too long and I wouldnt be disappointed if he turned up as a defensive assistant coach at the Broncos.

I reckon the storm would do worse than bringing him back in the fold... I think Madge gets labelled as being too hard on the players, but the storm squad is used to that from Bellamy, so bringing in a former assistant that has been successful elsewhere could represent a succession plan.

I do feel that they may bring Billy into the fold though... and I feel that Billy has the makings of being a very good coach... would love to see him at Broncos if he is currently living in Qld

NRL360 might be interesting tonight ... Hooper is claiming their broadcast last night was what forced the Tigers hands today re: Madge's sacking

If I'm the tigers I'd be more interested in finding out who the rat is... unless they already know and they're too high up to touch (board member, etc.), but if that's the case and they know info is being leaked to the media then a rumour shouldn't be forcing their hand

Nathan Brown just said on NRL360 that his head coaching days are over. he'll be going into a new field (in rugby league)

says that he wants to help a young coach keep their jobs (sounds like he wants to go into a Ikin, Sheens, Gould type role)

Surely you need to have a pedigree of success to be a mentor, lol. He's been putrid his entire career, I can't be bothered verifying but I'm sure he has the worst win rate of any NRL coach by a fair stretch.

He tells them what not to do

Just plain WRONG

I think you're guilty of falling into the trap of what you would have liked him to do compared to what any sane person would do with a family to look after

He took guaranteed money, he would've been on a development contract with us, playing in QLD Cup, he had no way of knowing how he would handle the NRL, if at all. It's fine to say he should back himself, hell of a risk to take though if it doesn't eventuate. Risking it all for a few blokes on the internet saying he should back himself, family and everything

I don't blame him, it sucked to see him go and carve up for another team but I don't blame him

Riccio asked him if he would be interested in taking up a role at one of these battling clubs as a development coach, that's nearly insulting. No coach wants to retire with the legacy of being the bloke who got the club to middle of the table from the bottom of the table.

I know that's what Nathan Brown will be remembered for but seriously, what a ridiculous question.

nope. people look after families on far less that what we offered him.

some people are short term, illogical thinking, mercenaries ... others are more strategic, long term thinkers that realise taking the bigger money in the short term is not necessarily the best option to make a career.

I happen to fall into the later category. always have.

besides, whether I'm 18 or 41, there is zero chance that I go to a team coached by Nathan Brown, the only thing that team is destined for is failure.

p.s. he would have only been on a development contract for the 2021 season (which he was already contracted for by us anyway.). for the 2022 season our initial offer was around the 300k mark

This one doesn't make too much sense either, at the time they were probably going better than us

always going to be a temporary situation. Kevvie hadn't coached at NRL level yet, so was an unknown as an NRL coach.

Nathan Brown's quality was very well known in the NRL ... and that was complete failure
