There is a huge difference there🤣. Number one is that isn't a valid hypothetical as generally speaking indigenous jerseys have nothing to do with religion.

I'm sure none of these players hate the pride community, it's more they don't want to show support to it. It's something they don't stand with so they have to make a stand. it would be wrong for these players to make a compromise just because they get paid to play rugby. It's a matter of what's right for these players. Standing true to their convictions.
Just because it shoots down your argument doesn’t mean it is a bad comparison, it is basically a like for like.

So they don’t hate gay people they just don’t want to show support to them? So by that same token you would have no issue with players refusing to wear the indigenous jersey because they don’t hate indigenous people, they just don’t want to show support to them?

re: Manly and the jersey.. I resent that sport is used for politics.. It’s sort of an escape from that, or should be in my view.
100% this. It's cheap politics from Manly trying to look good. They don't have to force it on the players, the players can do that in their own way should they want to. The club can advertise it in a million other ways too.

Typical tone deaf upper management making decisions without consulting the workforce.

has this ever happened? What a stupid argument. Every aboriginal person I have ever met is a proud indigenous person.

if you weren’t aboriginal but was told you must wear indigenous attire would you not have a wtf moment?

what a stupid comparison.
Ummm what? Every team wears an indigenous jersey every year and all members where it if they are indigenous or not. Also, this pride jersey isn’t to be worn because they are gay.

You are joking right? Like this wasn’t a serious post was it?

Which is precisely why it shouldn't happen in the first place for anything. All this "one off" special round bullshit. Just BE inclusive. Put on a show with aboriginal or homosexual or whatever artist every week and don't make a fuss/show about their arbitrary differences that they were born with, just respect them for what they bring in terms of entertainment.

All this highlighting only serves to other them.

I don't have any problems with clubs celebrating or promoting whatever, but if any club is stupid enough to push hot button political issues in a way where you can't object without it being a media circus, the club is incompetent.

I'm not interested in getting into the whole LGBT / religion thing but LGBT have every right to be celebrated and players should have every right to abstain. There's a clear line between bigotry and having religious beliefs where you don't want to promote something that's against those beliefs.

Forcing the issue is beyond stupid and that's exactly what Manly have done by coming out publicly without gauging the player group support first.

Fly some flags, have a LGBT mascot for the week, post a logo on your website, you don't need to force the issue by making it a jersey where players may have a moral objection where it's not possible to decline quietly.

It isn't hard is it.
Not at all, and if they want to signal that they stand for inclusivity then they can redesign all of them to be all a rainbow mishmash of colours and art forms, OR just stick to the standard club colours and live to their supposed morals and employ fairly and do community outreach towards all communities with regularity and without discrimination.

Live the words in their club values statement and anyone who breaches those words can rack off elsewhere. Wearing a jersey doesn't mean a tick towards real action.

I think we would see pretty quickly what sort of a club we support then. This is going to be a very fun time for Manly to juggle this. The NRL too, if people actually looked at the wider context, and already I'm not the only one drawing parallels to Indigenous round.

That round is also about being charitable and donating and helping out indigenous communities in serious need. Is there a charity where I can donate to gay communities because….…y’know……they could use a bitof help? Lifeline or is it a 1800 number?

By chance does Ian roberts still work for manly in some capacity?
