Good depth singings for the eels. I presume Warriors paying some of papalii's freight?

Pretty sure Papali'i was off contract so no freight needed

you have to laugh at the Courier Mail

Meyn publishes an article where he says CS9 has given the strongest indication yet that he's eyeing retirement.

then if you scroll down just a little from that article, there is a video saying that Smith hints he'll go around again next season.

both using the same quotes from Smith

"By all reports, Cam Smith will exist in some form in 2021".

Jake Clifford set to be released by the Cowboys and will join Newcastle. Benji Marshall will ink a one year deal under his former teammate.

Kyle Flanagan off to the Bulldogs in 2021.

Who couldn't see the Roosters release coming a mile away? Flanagan was one of the top prospects in the competition, so naturally the Roosters brought him into replace Cronk and the moment they realise he isn't going to guarantee them a premiership they move him on ipso facto.

I wonder if this means they're going to invest in young Sam Walker's future and bring him into the team. By their logic, it's better to bring this young player in, get games under his belt than persevere with a player they don't believe in. It's just a question of whether it's too early for Sam and if they'll give him a safety net.

Good signing by the Bulldogs and an inspired choice by Kyle. They're a team on the up and up and expectations aren't going to be too crazy. He'll have the opportunity to fail without having his game picked apart like it was at the Roosters.

I'm more interested in the Clifford to Knights news, does that mean Pearce is heading elsewhere (Perhaps back to the Roosters on a 1-2 year deal?), or are they planning on a Clifford & Pearce halves combination?

I dunno man, I don't think Flanagan has much going for him except his goal kicking.

Heaven help him if he doesn't kill it from the get go,walker that is.
Unless he plays absolutely awful football, I think they'll happily bide their time with Walker just like they did with Pearce.

or are they planning on a Clifford & Pearce halves combination?

That was my read, with the potential of Clifford taking over full-time if Pearce continues to disappoint.

He's pretty solid in all aspects of his game to be fair. Not a super talent by any means but doesn't look completely out of his league at this level unlike the halves the Bulldogs currently have. Unless the Bulldogs offered him crazy money to quit, he wouldn't be taking up too much space and he should have a decent team around him by 2022.

It's a good pick up for the Bulldogs, but I can't see the Roosters regretting this decision either. I will laugh if this turns out to be Jackson Hastings 2.0 with Trent Barrett.

Clifford and Pearce could work well

Good signing for the knights, what are the cowboys thinking? Drinkmorewater and Morgan?

Will be interesting... Clifford and Morgan didn't really mesh all that well given they were both effectively halfbacks, but that may have been more about Morgan not being able to replicate his 2017 form rather than Clifford being unable to play as a 6.

I think Clifford actually plays better as a dominant half when Morgan is out injured.

Pearce will be a completely different half compared to Morgan with Pearce being dominant as a first receiver and playing the middle third of the field.

I'm not sure if that will free Clifford up or send him into his shell and just live off whatever comes to his edge.

Dylan Brown and Luai play well off a halfback who dominates the middle of the field... I'm not quite sure I've seen Clifford succeed in that kind of role just yet though

I think it'll be a good thing for Clifford playing alongside Pearce. Way too much chopping and changing at the Cowboys and on the rare occasion that Morgan was fit they didn't look a likely combination anyway.

He's going to have alot more of the spotlight on him down in Newcastle as for some reason they are viewed as "contenders" but I think Pearce's experience will help him develop. No idea what it means for Mann, Crossland, Lino etc. but I think this is a big loss for the Cowboys long term.
