I believe if Gallen or Johns made the comments that Thaiday did it would be a MUCH bigger story. You seriously don't think so? Come on mate.

Anyways, this whole situation is reflective of a bigger problem. As I said, the timing is suspect. There was a delayed reaction to this becoming a story. I think the reasons are the rep round. I daresay if it was a regular NRL week this would've got lost in the media cycle.

I don't think Thaiday is racist. I was not upset or offended at his comment. I also can't really see how anyone can be. I mean seriously? That was pretty tame. Are we a nation of pussies? There was absolutely nothing in those comments to get bent out of shape over or be genuinely upset by.

Most people involved in the RL media do not care about international football. Sadly a lot of fans don't either. Lots of fans and journos would prefer the NRL to roll on and even don't want players representing their country or second tier country.

Pretty fucking sad. But in that climate, low hanging fruit like Thaiday's comments as well as a good 'outrage' on social media will get us through a weekend with not much footy on.

me personally i just find it a ill fated joke. sam didnt mean anything by it.

Kevin Proctor stands down as Titans co-captain over drug claim

DECLARING himself “extremely embarrassed and sorry”, Kevin Proctor has stood down as co-captain of the Gold Coast Titans following an allegation that he took an illicit drug.

Proctor issued a statement on Sunday saying that he had been too drunk to recall exactly what happened at a Canberra nightclub early on Saturday.

“Although I can’t remember exactly what happened, I don’t deny it,” Proctor said.

The incident came hours after Proctor played in New Zealand’s heavy Test loss to Australia in Canberra on Friday night.

“I am devastated by the whole thing and can’t apologise enough to my Kiwi team mates, the NRL, the Titans, and all fans of the game,” said Proctor.

“I’ve never been in this sort of trouble in my career, I have never failed a drug test, and I’m so sorry I’ve let everyone down by losing control of my personal decisions by drinking too much alcohol.

“I have a wife and young family, and taking drugs is not something I support or encourage because I am very aware of the damage it can do.

“I accept that there will be further punishment from my club and the NRL, and I just want to put this all behind me as quickly as possible and prove I can make it up to everyone.”
