I won't be surprised if he makes the bench for QLD.
HE is being tempted to stay in Canberra with a $1.2 million- per-season offer, but Anthony Milford’s price tag is set to increase even further.
Maroons coach Mal Meninga said the 19-year-old Bronco-in-waiting was a legitimate chance of playing State of Origin for Queensland this year.
It would be classified as a selection shock but Milford has been sensational for the Raiders in their unexpectedly solid start to the season.
The electric playmaker has justified the hype that had him pegged as the “next Johnathan Thurston” when he was only 15.
In just four games this year he leads all fullbacks for line-breaks with five, has four try-assists and has scored two tries himself.
Meninga said the new NRL laws, which have significantly increased ruck speed, meant Milford’s name would be brought to the selection table.
He would not displace Daly Cherry-Evans on the bench or force his way into the starting backline, but the Maroons could manufacture a way to get him in the 17, such is his talent.
Asked if he was realistically in the frame for a debut Queensland jersey, Meninga said: “He is. He would be dangerous off the bench.
“Where you put him is the issue. At this stage he is in the plans.
“He has great versatility, is dangerous with the ball all the time and with how fast the ruck is, if we get momentum through the middle he will be pretty daunting to combat.
“He will come into selection calculations when we sit down around the table.”
Milford has signed with the Broncos for next season but Canberra are trying to persuade him to stay.
Milford can opt out of his Broncos contract before round 13 this year and Canberra are tempting him with an offer above $1 million a season.
Better yet don't allow contracts to be signed so far out, it's a blight on the game.yeah, they should ratify all signed contracts with registration immediately. it's a no brainer.
I might be only one of the few who think he will still honour his deal, but I feel the reason he is playing so well is because from his perspective he is sorted. Think about this, if he felt pressured or was having second thoughts wouldn't his form be affected? I could be naive but he already also confirmed he would honour the deal only 5 weeks ago. Would look very bad on his part if he back flipped. I also don't think the Broncos will make the same mistake twice ala the Greg Inglis fiasco.

This situation has the potential to break the Broncos fans hearts. If Milford changes his mind it has massive ramifications for the club.
There is literally nothing more the contract could say to prevent this from happening.
