Opinions Thread

Yep, Canberra, North Queensland, Melbourne, Wests Tigers and Gold Coast have all expressed interest in the last 18 months.

My 2 cents FWIW. Of all the players you have listed the only one who has impressed me more than B Hunt so far is Mortimer and that has only come this year - until he got his 1st grade opportunity and made the most of it, he was also definitely behind Hunt in my pecking order.

But we have all seen a number of great young talents fail when they finally make it to the top grade, but we've also seen a lot of next big things actually become the next big thing as well. Ultimately we are not going to know for sure with Hunt until he gets the opportunity. I would certainly prefer we give him every opportunity possible to make his mark here. Even if we give him the opportunity and he fails, I would find that much more preferable to us not giving him the opportunity and he goes elsewhere and is a massive success.

And THAT's my point in a nutshell. Well said.

He may not be all that and a packet of chips, but unless the Broncos give him a FAIR opportunity to succeed or fail, then we risk him just going elsewhere and proving what douches we were for holding him back.

If he gets a chance and fails here, then goes elsewhere and succeeds, so be it. He had his chance and it didn't work out here.

It's NOT giving him the chance that's a fatal mistake.

The Broncos have had failures. Ben Walker springs to mind. Gave him numerous chances from 1995 (he debuted in the same game as D. Lockyer) to 2000. Walters was injured early in 2000 and Walker got a chance to play halfback...he was shit. In the end Ben Ikin at five-eighth (he was recruited to play centre) and Walters at halfback guided the Broncos to a premiership...Ben Walker left and never made it anywhere else.

But Ben Walker had a fair chance. He was at the club in first grade on and off for 6 years. Mixture of starting spots when the first choice players were injured (or when Alf retired) and lots of times on the bench as a utility.

Exactly! And at the risk of re-opening old wounds - that's also the way I feel about the whole David Taylor thing. The Broncos gave him fair opportunities and it didn't work out here until the last month or so of this season AFTER he had already signed to leave. I still agree with the Broncos decision to let him go and hope he continues to improve and do well at Souths.

Yeah agree with all these points guys, I'm just not a fan of giving him a bench spot in the hope that we are coasting so we can hook Locky or Wallace.

Agree with that too, we'd need to use him as a substitute hooker or something else as well, plan B. And it'd depend on the opponent. You wouldn't have him on the bench against Melbourne.

Ben Hunt has trained at halfback, 5/8 and Hooker this off season. he even had a run at 5/8 Along side Tim Smith and a run at 5/8 Alongside Wallace with Lockyer at Fullback.

My source is Ben hunt

I'm on team Tim Smith, based purely on what I saw of him a couple of years ago when he played for Parra. Had a great short kicking and passing game. I would love to see him in the 17 somehow.

Here is a bit of Smith at Parra, when he was going good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3G09BJfQ6o
(warning - it is somebody using a videocamera to videotape the telly......who needs a hard disk recorder)

I haven't seen enough of Hunt, beyond his NRL appearances, to jump in his corner. But, by the sounds of it there's something there aswell.

Interesting considering I was sure that Locky had been given time off until January with the other Bronco World Cup players and isn't Wally still coming back from injury.

I could see Ben Hunt as a backup hooker actually

Was actually thinking the same thing Russo - especially as Locky did a radio interview the other day and he was talking about how he's enjoying his break and he hasn't been near a football since the 4 Nations.

Yeah he proberly ment its the plan his been told or something, As he did say he feels great running along side wallace. I will try ask him about it

Ok spoke to Hunt again clear a couple of things up..

he has run along side Smith and Wallace and enjoyed both he would love playing with either.

It has been mentioned about trying Locky Behind the dif halve combos ie, Smith/Hunt/Wallace as well as Hunt/Smith from the bench.

what he ment when he spoke to me last was "im gonna get a run with locky at fullback" not "ive had a run with Locky at fullback.

Also he has no interest in joining the Cowboys if Thursto leaves however Wallace and Smith have both said they wouldnt say no right away.. thats not from them but from Hunt.

I just read an article saying that Gallen wants out of his contract with the sharks and is in negotiations with tigers and sea eagles. From the sound of the article it doesn't sound very likely that ither team will pick him up.

I'm curious to here your opinions on us signing him since we SHOULD have some money spare and there is no one else to spend it on at the moment.

In my opinion I think it would be good for the team performance wise however I hate the grub and would hate the have someone like him playing for the Broncos.

Yes just what we need, another backrower to add to the ever growing endless stockpile at the club, sorry but it would be a waste of the salary cap and quite frankly his not a player I would want to touch with an 80 foot pole with his attitude.
