Origin Scheduling is a joke and a blight to the game.

They don't really lose any games though because there is no more byes.
In fact I'd be certain the ratings (and crowds) drop around origin period so in net terms I'd say they have an overall higher amount of ratings over a season.

Yes, but with the bye rounds channel 9 gets 2 extra rounds, so 4 extra TV games to sell advertising for.

Yeah so there's no reason not to change it. I think Sunday night origins would get even better ratings than Wednesday nights.

Broncos burnt out by Origin: Lockyer

http://www.broncos.com.au/news-display/Lockyer-Backs-Broncos-As-2013-Force/63855

"The guys started the season really well, but looking back they didn't recover from that Origin period," Lockyer said.
"Mentally, a few of the players are on record saying it's the most draining (Origin) series they had and it took it out of the seasoned pros.
"The younger generation (Broncos Origin debutants Matt Gillett and Ben Te'o) just didn't cope with it. It was a new experience for a lot of them and they will learn.
"The Broncos always have a high represenation during that period, but guys like Te'o and Gillett played their first Origin series and Corey Parker played a lot more Origin this year.
"No one saw it coming, but it's something the Broncos will be wary of this year and I think they can bounce back next year."

Just fix it, FFS.

I reckon a 3-4 week break in the middle of the season with stand alone origin on weekends and have a version of the old mid week comp during this time with the leftover players to keep them fresh (good time to try new thing for clubs not performing). Or they could have an IPL type series with the top non origin players auctioned to corporate sponsored teams playing a quick comp.

The players and their association have an agenda to get paid around $50 000 per game, of course they are going to keep up that kind of talk.

Teo and Parker have been our best since Origin, Gillett went crap from the first time he started and as for the "no one saw it coming" FFS Locky you cannot be serious. Charter boat, what charter boat.

Apart from that every other non Bronco Origin player seems to have recovered long before our players did so the club needs to find out why/how and copy it because origin is not going to change from where it is.

Having a look through the squads there are hardly any players who have gone badly and a lot have been on fire since Origin except the poor old Broncos who apparently haven't learnt yet about the Origin hangover.

The Broncos are really starting to use it as a crutch to explain bad performances and the more they are told it the more the will buy into it.

I don't believe the Origin reps. were the only players affected by Origin.

When more is asked of certain players than others it's going to result in injuries & exhaustion. Which is exactly what happened. By the time Origin was finished, our backline was decimated and we were forced to play forwards in the centre position, which absolutely killed us in games that should have been building blocks for the competition leaders.

BAM! Finally, someone understands flow on effects.

Pretty sure we all do, I just don't believe Origin was responsible for all our problems. The game plan IMO had so much to do with our fade out. Our simple game plan asks too much of our forwards in attack and over 26 weeks plus Origin it brings a high price.

Nobody will convince me Origin is solely responsible for our fade outs, at any rate it is a known so the club needs to find a way to deal with it.

And again, who has said Origin is SOLELY responsible for the fade out? I and others are just saying it was a SIGNIFICANT contributor.
And that by fixing the diabolical scheduling of Origin the Broncos, Storm and other clubs will have LESS impact from it.

I don't buy this BS about how it's good because it evens up the competition. That's what the salary cap is for.

Not sure what that is about, I haven't heard anyone suggest something that silly.

The bottom line here is we have to find a better way to deal with it. The cows had Scott, Tamou, Tate and Thurston and only Scott had a break from any of their games, if they can find a way to deal with it so can we, at least better than we do now.

Nothing is going to change in the next 5 years regarding scheduling so this thread is moot.

Fair point vertigo.

It'll be interesting to see how Griffin looks to combat Origin season next year. The resting policy has had mixed results, worked well in 2011 and not so well in 2012 so whether he uses it again or goes in a different direction remains to be seen.

I can't see as many Broncos being involved next year which will help alleviate the pressure but we'll still be down at least 4 players which is more than most other sides in the competition. I'm personally interested in what Justin Hodges does, if he stands down from representative football that'll be a huge gain during the middle portion of the series because Hodges loves to lead from the front and he'll star in those lower quality matches.

I doubt our depth will be as depleted either. This year we were without 3 backs (Yow Yeh, Kahu & Gagai) and also experienced depth forwards who tend to be gold during this period (Anderson, Hala). Our current crop will also be more experienced and better suited to handle that period.

It'll still bite us, but not as much this season.

I didn't mean that in any mean kind of way either, Nine have clearly stated nothing will change.

It sucks but maybe we can change it next time around. Imagine how some of the players feel, they're the ones busting their arses for us.

Hodges retiring would be good for both the Broncs AND Queensland. Tate is a much better Origin centre.

Assuming hodges doesn't miss the majority of the season anyway, which he has done nearly every season of his career. Iirc 2012 would've been almost the year where he has played the most games in his career.

As for that Lockyer article, it's just another typical pr sports article not to be taken seriously. Gillett was rubbish all year, not just after origin. Te'o played even better after his one origin game. Thaiday was rubbish all year.
