Imagine being Haas, expected to play 80 and playing 80 in the toughest position, being paid a plodders wage whilst one of the best and then watching benchwarmers put in half the time for a higher wage.

I find it hard to believe others don't understand what effect that could have on Haas's outlook.

That is an interesting new name for it, have you been peeking?
In your trade being reckless with the truth is a given. It tends to corrupt the mind and a 'truth' becomes what can be sold to the listener.
My father was surrounded by insanity every day of a long working life until he left the job late in life. He didn't recognise his own aberrant behaviour, everything was justified.

Maybe there's more to life than cash, unless of course you're Darius

In my trade, there is very few scenarios where there is a black or white answer, just shades of grey. There is very rarely a fundamental `truth' in a matter (if there is you are exceedingly lucky). You are consistently dealing with fallible humans who all may witness the same incident and all have different versions. You strike people that believe what they are saying is the truth, and quite regularly it is not. You strike people that will flat out lie convincingly and your job is to uncover that to the best of your ability.

The role is not one of being reckless with the truth, someone who is reckless with the truth in this trade will eventually be facing misconduct proceedings. As always, rather than trying to deceive from time immemorial this trade involves the art of persuasion in the context of a highly adversarial system.

I like the way you wrote this. To be honest I thought the law would be an interesting career and I was on the pathway there, at least that was the path chosen for me by dreaming parents!

So many roads not taken. Given my time again and with my current understanding I'm sure I'd have made different choices.

Reckless was a poor choice to describe your career. Apologies.

It isn't a question about cash, it's more about value.
I think someone like Joffa is on 600k(?) I try to imagine being in Haas's giant shoes. From his standpoint he sees a guy playing half his minutes and earning 100k more. It isn't the cash so much, it's the relative value he provides. In a just scenario Joffa should receive 300k and Haas the 600k and even that gap wouldn't be fair as Haas provides a superior product.

Isn't it time to leave DB out of things? You've denigrated him more times than any other person alive. I learned to drop the fat shaming of Seeplod, can you not finally give it a rest too or is it the expectation that I alone must learn a lesson?

Just want to add to Huge’s last paragraph; it’s been one hell of a year (for so many reasons) and many of us are acting out of character due to the changes in lifestyle, opportunity, lack of positive escapism (broncos just one example), boredom due to lockdown, and countless other factors that amplify our need for escapism here, and in such a negative year, it’s hard to be the best version of oneself.

I feel we all (myself included) need to be more compassionate with one another as it’s obvious that the year has taken its toll on us all individually, as families and as communities (both IRL and digitally).

The greatest learning from my past catholic background was to treat others as you’d have them treat you. I’ve been as misdirected as many here, constantly trying to ‘one-up’ for the sake of it, not caring that the other person is likely struggling as much, if not more than I am. I’m gonna focus on this again and see if it makes for more positive interactions and relationships. Just a thought that I wanted to share.

I watched The Social Dilemma today and it really got me thinking about the widening divide technology has persuaded us to buy into.

Great post and great sentiment. I will try and follow your lead as well.

You da man. Truth. I've been poor this year and ideally would like to be better. Overly critical and downright malicious with my comments at times. Funny thing though, I've been in the group least affected and I've had a string of successes so I can agree wholeheartedly that covid has hurt so many and so many have done it really tough.

Roll on 21. Sounds like a deodorant!

At the same time mate, you have been locked up in WA for extreme periods (for most of us) and that has to take a toll. Home is where the heart is.

Cheers but I wasn't bullshitting the other day, I've been having a blast and the fun kicks off again in 12 hours! Social events lined up, party favours in place, zero covid, fucktons of cash and partying with my boss. What little discomfort covid has caused me pales into insignificance compared to the pain, emotional and financial, it's caused others. I've had it easy. Your post makes me realize I have to be better and share( not 'feelings' sharing ha ha) even more than I've been doing.
