There was a very encouraging comeback though prior to half time. Then they let that lazy try in and the field goal and there was no coming back from that.

Turpin, Dearden and Milford should be going themselves at least once every time we are close to an opponents try line. Turpin probably could have got over last night but just kept shuffling the ball one out. I thought he was okay in defence, big Macca numbers but at the expense of his attack and service, which was ordinary.

Yes it was encouraging and I expect to see improvements every week. It's just hard to take when you love your team and they get flogged

I mean the thing that makes you bitter is we were right in that game. Not just a chance of avoiding a flogging but actually beating a title contender, and then they fold and get flogged. The thing we all wanted this year was respectable losses to the good teams, and we haven't had one yet.

Absolutely. As I see it we are in for a lot more of that pain until the confidence and composure under pressure builds to the point the players don't drop their bundle. I can see that taking a fair while.

Again, this is all on the club

Yeah, he does. Constantly hitting in front of his target and on the chest. Definitely needs to work on his long ball and pass selection, but in our spine Turpin is the least of our worries.
That's absolutely true, but that's really only because he's the 'least of our worries' in our spine in the same way that the people right up the back of a rapidly crashing aeroplane are the 'least of our worries'...

Its going to be tough for Milf to add another POTY trophy to his mantle with haas in the team

In your analogy, If Turpin is the people at the back of the rapidly crashing plane, Isucko and Milford are the exploding engines. I know which part should be the focus to fix first.

Didn't you notice how many times Dearden was catching the ball above his head? Awful service from Turpin last night. Also took too long to pass to forwards who were actually running hard and fast.
Yes I did. I’m starting to wonder if Jake picked up bad habits from his time with Macca, who he kept saying was his mentor. I thought he would’ve unleashed a running and short kicking game by now but he seems to have regressed.

The enduring problem is our entire spine is composed of reasonably talented passengers. None of whom can drive. Our coaches keep shuffling them around but it’ll never work until we have a driver. One day Dearden might be capable of that, but not now.

I think Karmichael Hunt could be a quick short term fix, in for Milford.

Why don't we see what he looks like at six for a week first for Souths?

Just Haas is Worthy, still playing too much minutes, bench rotation still shit, if flegs is only plying 29 mins in the game what the **** are we doing.

Given your spot on summary in your 1st two paragraphs, I find your suggestion for a quick fix a non sequitur. Given a poor spine, no one player will have any effect.

There is absolutely no quick fix for this side. There is only patience, application, diligence in the basics, specifically support play and defence. Khunt won't fix anything except his bank account

Just on Milford’s 2018 POTY; you know who else tasted success that year?

Dally M Coach of the Year, Anthony Seibold.

Take a moment to let that sink in.

They ruined each other

It's as simple as accepting we don't have a spine combination that can work this year so the best we can do is develop and prune. Milford is a spent force; there is no point exerting any more energy into building a team around him. We have to write off his expense as a loss. Give up now. Move on.

Isaako and Dearden are both talented players who need on-field direction. As are Farnworth, Niu and Coates. That's not coming from the captain. It's not coming from anyone.

My solution - and it's scraping what barrel we have - is to start building next year's spine now. If Dearden and Isaako don't blossom under KHunt's tutelage, let them go. Or at least let Dearden go. No point investing in him. Turpin's future is at the mercy of whether anyone better comes to market. Maybe he'd benefit from more direction too. Or maybe he's peaked. I can't tell.

Of course, if KHunt is too old and slow for the modern NRL, then ignore above. He might need a couple of weeks in QCup to prove himself.

Has Hunt ever played in the halves? I can only think of one time he did in union and he was in a team that got absolutely pumped.

Too many reds under the bridge for my brain cells, but I'm sure Hunt stepped in for Locky during an injury phase.

Following a similar trajectory
