NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

Most of the media are ripping into him, which is great to hear.
Which will no doubt bring a reply from Mundine, with a whole bunch of unproven claims about the club's treatment of poor old Payno.

So Haas was able to set aside his discomfort at being part of this great club and attend training today. We all feel so honoured with your presence Payne.

Somebody said something about if he did not turn up to training he would be docked pay. Well as soon as you mention dollars and the loss of, it all makes sense.

Wonder how much shit he's copping from the boys.

Woke up, hoped I dreamed it happened but nup, still a train wreck.

As a Broncos supporter I'm trying to remain as neutral as possible in this and see things from Payne's perspective but it really doesn't look good from him.

It's been acknowledged he carried our team, allbeit still finishing last, throguh our darkest days and his salary has appropriately amended as such. To be fair, at present you could argue his worth possibly another 50k a year. However in the big picture players of that value (1 mil plus) simply have to be game winners. They regularly need to be the difference between winning and losing i.e thurston, clearly, smith, teddy. Payne does not do that.
100% This.

Fifita has turned out to be a dud BUT does/did have the potential to be a game changer. Hell, he did it a few times last year scoring triples. Your Munsters, Clearys, Teddys and Turbos (though injured every 3rd game) deserve that $1m+ tag because they'll win you a game through brilliance.

Haas IS the best frf in the game and was the shining light in an otherwise shitty two years but unfortunately forwards just don't win games. They are workhorses. I can't see another team paying him the $1m+ a year he's after. If he goes to Sydney it'll be a net loss as real estate prices are ridiculous there.

Pretty obvious that Payne's camp are angling whatever they can to bring upon the dreaded "U" word, "Untenable". They will do whatever it takes, they don't care about ruining Payne's image in the process, to get the Broncos to release him. I feel a bit sorry for him in some ways as he is really just the pawn here, but he is also really fucking dumb and impressionable if he doesn't realise he's being used and manipulated by a bunch of guys who only really have self interest at heart.

Even if it is in the Broncos' best interest to release him though, I want them to go absolutely balls out in terms of sticking up for the club's rights. It's bullshit that this can happen, and so transparently. Hopefully they are on to the NRL to get them to assist here too. If he does go, there better be something in it for us. We can't be seen as the bad guys here, but absolutely can't be seen as pushovers either.

I'd be happy for the club to force him to stay here till 2024, even if it's in reserve grade and we're at a cap disadvantage. Fuckhead players need to stop pulling BS to get out of contracts.

Ryan Matterson/Lodge, the list is endless actually and the players always win while clubs have to eat bad contracts (Milford) because the players always honour their agreement when they can't get a better deal.

Not a net loss for his manager though. How dumb is this kid

This could actually work out well in our favour. We get to spend his over inflated contract on a match winning spine player and the club don't get any backlash for losing him.

He doesn't pass the no dickhead test anyway so we should start working out how to move on without him.

I do also understand that there is the situation where a club sees the player as no longer in their plans, and effectively force them in to leaving early by saying they probably have a better chance moving on. So it's not like it's only one-way traffic here. But in this case, Haas has not only been given additional upgrades to his contract (without extensions), he has been overpaid for a significant portion of his time here. It would be unfathomable for the reverse to happen - for a club to ask a player to take a paycut on their current contract, especially if they had already signed for unders earlier in their career.

@Wolfie trust me when Pollitis' lackeys (Weedler, Nassar, SBW) became involved and then Gould bought into the argument months ago and the Roosters made noises about Crichton going to rugby I had already resigned myself to him buggering off and have already moved on.

Have a mate who was contracted to the cows a few years ago, he's still in touch with some of the boys that were there ie TMM, Jensen. From what he's told me the playing group is privately seething and although no one will come out and say it. I just cant believe he's still playing tonight, i would have no trust defending next to him

I think they should play him but I’d plan to give him a short opening stint (~20 minutes) if we kick on and look like winning I’d keep him on the bench unless absolutely required.

Except we could really use his money, and if we're being honest, it was always going to be bad moneyball for us if he agreed to our terms. Truth is he's giving us the tough love we needed to cut him loose.

While we're at it: we have to quit the bait and switch promises. Both he and Patty had the captaincy dangled in front of them. Only one of them in good faith, albeit with two new captains imported into the queue in front of him in Reynolds and Capewell. Same with Kotoni and Herbie being thrown 6 and 1 as a lure, neither of which is going to happen.

Speaking of Patty, the club needs to look after this kid. We don't want him being the next to go. I see him as the glue that holds this team together, and a lot of the bits have been coming unstuck.

They should toughen up I reckon. Players ask for releases all the time, were they seething when Milford was leeching 1m off the cap while eating Maccas every day, or when Bird sucked up a million a year only to leave and immediately bag out the club, or when Isaako left and said our coaching staff suck, or when Coates said **** you guys are the worst I'd rather take less money to go somewhere else?

If players drop their bundle because of this, they're weak as piss. Harden up and do your job. Haas first and foremost, but certainly no excuse for anyone else to drop their heads.

Reynolds/Capes are strong leaders, they've all seen this a million times in their careers, I hope they're in the boys ears.

I genuinely don’t want him to play or wear a Broncos jersey ever again. But I’m also torn between that and wanting him booed off the field when his name is read out and when he is interchanged. I honestly can’t stand the bloke
