NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

Conference on now. Not verbatim but summarising.

Haas was a distraction but club and the boys got around him.

He's really confident he can sit down with Payne and sort something out, he's been a big part of the club and will continue to be. He won't release him.

Doesn't buy that it distracts the players, players are resilient and it's part and parcel.

Few boos are nothing.

Journo asking how do you resolve:
"It's for another occasion not tonight, but he said it won't drag on, he'll focus on coaching".

Capewell: Players aren't worried at all, Payne messaged all the players and told them he was fully committed. Reiterated he's fully committed and said just look at his game.

Kevin and Cape again: He never lets the boys down, and he can't see him ever being in reserves.

Pete said Payne is being money hungry.

Capewell: We've got a short career and it might be over next week with 1 injury, stuff like this happens all the time, it's no fuss.

I dont think Kevvie is very smart underestimating the booing of Payne. Its clearly affected and shocked Payne. I think now we will see if he actually has a mind of his own or if he is a puppet to his management.

I'm not impressed with the past 24 hours but you can't help but feel sorry for him. Being booed at Suncorp by the home crowd wearing the Broncos colours is some damn rare territory, and it can't feel good.

I'm quietly optimistic that the experience will be a circuit breaker for his mentality. Don't be surprised if we hear his request for a release has been withdrawn during the week.

I dont feel sorry for him at all. He is a grown man who should know better than to do what he did. Maybe he needs to listen to people who arent only after a percentage of his paycheck.

I think Kevvie is simply deflecting the noise, pretty smart of him to not make a big deal of it IMO. Obviously it is, but you don't need the coach saying it.

Everyone booed Haas, but they were cheering for him in the end.

It wasn't an outstanding game, but I thought he was strong tonight. Came up with some really good carries coming out of our end.
He's a robot. You know what you're gonna get from him each week. Which is why we should keep him until the end of his contract as he will keep doing his job.

I think the worst thing is that everything got made public. Whether thats him, or his manager, it was an aweful thing to do.
If he wanted to secure his future, i cant blame him. Wanting the most he can get is fair enough (be it with us or someone else i cant hold it against him). Theyve got a limited time in the sport and every year is valuable.
But to go out and do what he has done is like a toddler throwing a tantrum after not getting a lolly. Its a twrrible look.
What will be worse is the damage to the game when players are encouraged by clubs to break contracts two years out for mid season switch.
The NRL is going to have HUGE problems if this sets a precedence, and vlandy should be having some serious discussion behind closed doors, or it could become ooen slsther in the next few years.
If that happens, you may as well throw the whole idea of a balanced comp in the bin because the salary cap (already open to rorts) will not count for a thing and only work to punish the bottom clubs (the opposite of its intent).

Looked like he wanted to cry when speaking with Locky after the game.
It’s a tough one, I feel for him getting booed at home by the fans but 24hrs ago he was happy enough to walk out on the club and it’s supporters and never wear the jersey again..
To me it just looks like extremely poor advice and management from his team, and he will be under strict instruction to follow their lead but, if he thought everything was going to be rosey tonight from people that support this club, he really needs to get a better read on the entire situation.

I hope both parties can come to an agreement which sees him stay until at least the end of 2024.

The interesting thing was none of the boys seemed to get around him at all. At half time he was on the bench trying to like shake hands with broncos players and they just ignored him. Cobbo, Oates, flegler just didn’t want a bar of him. At the end of the game also, didn’t get any of the players around him. The only people speaking to him were titans players. I think he’s lost the players. Pick him as 18th man for the next 2.5 years and ruin him.

Sounds like he's getting a bit of a reality check.

I think he's realised the club means more to him than he thought.
The club means shit to him, he just didn’t like the booing and is concerned he may not get picked for origin if Freddy thinks this is a distraction.

I’m so proud of those players I can’t even describe it.

I was at the game, and right before the start Cobbo walked up to him and pat him on the back. He got quite a few tonight.

I was at the game and kept a very close eye on it after tries and half time and full time. The players definitely were not getting around him. Even when he did the big defensive play to push Campbell in goal didn’t see many people rushing to support him. And honestly, why would they. He’s currently the highest paid player on $800k. Had an offer of $1.05m which is by far the highest paid player, and still wanted more. That’s a huge **** you to people like Oates who has stayed on unders, emerging game breaking talents like Cobbo and the biggest **** you of all time to Palasia who took a shorter deal on less money to stay with us to be loyal and show thanks. Sure maybe his managers started this, but if he came out and said no it’s wrong I’m not going I’m staying then that would end it all. It’s very very clear he just wants more money.

I think Kevvie had basically no other option than to handle it like he did.

as a primary school teacher and youth speaker who talks to teens about casting their shadow...actions are what people ultimately see you as. Your shadow doesnt cast your achievements, or $, or insta likes, or nice white shoes.

guys like SBW and Mundine who will say things like "you've just got to put yourself first", "dont listen to the haters", who will probably tell Haas to ignore the boos...bullsh*&!

The subtle art of not giving a F*&@ ???
What a load of crap! Thats just an excuse that people use to make decisions they dont want to be held accountable for!

He got booed because 24hrs earlier he pretended his actions didnt affect others.

I hope he stays, but I hope more that he realises that actions have consequences.

rant over.

Gotta say, it’s very hard to see a way back for him and the club at this point.

If I had to guess, I’d say it’s probably a less than 5% chance he’s extending his stay with us at this point.

Just think it’s hypocritical that he has it on his Instagram. Honestly bloke is a piece of shit and I don’t want him at the club but I also don’t want him getting his way and getting more money for breaking a contract. Need the NRL to do something. Either that or il go stand on his shoes so he hits me and il sue him.
Watch Flegler get suspended for it.
