NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

The fans are still going to be pissed when he rocks up against Canberra in a couple weeks and above all else the club will need to make sure his presence on the field is palatable to the fans.

I'm not sure how they go about doing that though.

It's all well and good to say he's going to honour his existing contract (he really had no choice), but how can you have a guy there for the next 2yrs if the fans hate him.

Serious damage control is required by Haas' deadshit management for bringing this onto him, but also the broncos management to be able to sell it back to the fans.

The only thing he can do now... and what the club probably need to organise as soon as possible (origin doesn't help) is get him in front of a camera to show his intent of recommitting... but it's not going to be as easy as that, because who will believe him.

If news is true about this my guess would be someone in origin camp has told him to end this while origin is on. Freddy and Brandy have both said they don't want players talking contracts while in camp.

This can't just be swept under the rug and pretend it never happened, unless Payne comes out apologizes to the fans, sponsors etc and takes an extension on unders while ditching his cult of managers or wins us a premiership on his own I don't think many fans will forgive him.

Not sure what others think...but i think the longer it goes on the more likely Haas is to re-sign.
Not sure if I want him to, but thats the vibe Im getting...its just the vibe.

Listening to those in the media who would be privvy to the inside info like Lockyer saying the boos will stop, or Freddy saying he wasnt concerned about the distraction for origin camp...just makes it sound like he's not going anywhere.

Just my gut thought that management tried to make a splash, realised they ballsed it up, but Payne wants to stay. Hopefully the manager has his tail between his legs speaking to Ikin and DD, before some sort of announcement will be made trying to downplay it all and that he will at least see out his contract.
Can I borrow your crystal ball?

Yeah I honestly don’t know how he spins it. He would have to say sack his management team and say they lead him astray, but that doesn’t hold much credibility after his multiple interviews telling contradicting lies. That needed to happen the next day.

Speaking for myself I think the only thing I would believe is legit humility and admission that he fucked up. Tell the fans that you received poor advice and didn’t consider the ramifications. That he is genuinely sorry and this has shown him what the club means to him. Anything less he can go **** himself and I will boo him until he is gone.

I have a bad suspicion you are right. Next part of the plan might be for Payne to get into trouble somehow and force the Broncos to release him that way. After state of origin....

Scary part is that way it might force Brisbane to pay some of his wage.

unlikely. we won't be paying him squat if he gets sacked for misconduct

although he'd need to be careful, because unless he convinces the Rorters to throw him a "lifeline" ... the NRL could step in and and suspended him for a lengthy period of time before they allow him to sign with the new team. especially as he isn't a clean skin

Just stand him down & dock his pay

Yeah that kind of raw honesty could work... if it's actually true... if it's read from a script and rumours start circling in another couple months time then the fans will be ropable again.

A statement by Ikin could help to cool things over.

If Ikin comes out and gives a 'corporately worded' "we read Haas the fucking riot act and kerb stomped his deadshit management"... we as fans might be willing to accept it as a win by the club over toxic player managers.

We're kind of there now with the R&R team shutting down Tyran within a couple days and sending him back to Sydney with his tail between his legs... Ikin is strutting around like Vinny Mac right now

There are obligations in these player contracts that they need to live up to.

If the incident is bad enough, broncos will have cause to terminate with no penalty
