NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

When I say "walk in their shoes" imagine if you have this base conditioning you are less than human, and that's reinforced by the dystopia of your community, and the interactions you have outside it. Seeing guys like Selwyn Cobbo celebrated as not just human, but superhuman, and being associated with your community, is a heck of a good start to unpicking that.

For me, realizing that almost all my favourite footballers were Aboriginal, without me having even twigged to it, was something of a lightbulb moment. It was good for me, too.
This topic is far too complex and emotional to get into here. I could certainly discuss it further with you, if you like, but I think it will derail this thread. I have written and deleted my response 3 times here.

Where does this absolute myth come from that the Roosters are stacked with stars? It's out of date bullshit.

QLD Origin team: 4 Broncos, 1 Rooster
NSW Origin team: 2 Broncos, 3 Roosters (and 1 is a reserve)

So that's 6 Broncos in Origin, 4 Roosters.

Even Penrith only has 6 players in Origin. All for NSW.
They also have a bunch of kiwi internationals as wel though.

This is a very odd discussion. Trying to bend facts to make it seem like we are just as stacked for talent as the Roosters would be like trying to convince someone that after her recent weight loss Rebel Wilson is just as hot as Scarlett Johansson.

To be fair I think on form we have the best backline In the comp at the moment

I don't know why we would be renegotiating anything at this point. I would pull any extension on the grounds that he has publicly said he doesn't want a longer deal. I would pull any offer of a pay rise since he's also publicly said it's not about the money. Tell him we're already top 4 and finals bound so we're ahead of his schedule so he has no right to ask for anything else.

He is under contract until the end of 2024. No-one can put a deal to him legally before 1 November next year. I don't know how DD and Ikin manage this in the meantime - because he has got to go if he starts derailing our season, and let's be honest at this point we would all prefer to see the back of him. But he also can't be allowed to get what he wants. I'm sure smarter people than me can come up with ways to get the best out of this situation.

I do hope the Broncos are on the blower to the NRL asking them to step in if we do give him a release, so he has to sit out until his contract would have been finished. Or at the very least he cannot sign anywhere else under more favourable conditions than the Broncos were offering. It might be petty but I'd also like to see him not allowed to play against the Broncos until 2025 either.

That last line in particular, couldn't agree more.

S
Badel is reporting he’s committed to seeing out his deal.

Story linked there isn't relevant to the text. This one is though:

"A Broncos official:"

“We’ve had dialogue and his management indicated Payne intends to honour his existing deal.”

Haas:

“If I was about money I would have left ages ago. Everyone can have their own opinion. I know who I am.”
“I do laugh at that (going to the Roosters). I am not allowed to talk to anyone. I haven’t spoken to anyone at the moment. I am trying to sort this out at the moment with the Broncos.”

Payne be like

I'm now with those that reckon he might extend his contract. 2 years is a long time to reflect on things and in another year who knows how he might feel?

Either way, shouldn't pander to him. Get on the bus or be stranded till 2025.

It would be hilarious if his management has actually withdrawn the request for a release... all they've managed to do is absolutely destroy their client's credibility.

It would seem any release that may eventuate will be under terms that suit the broncos.

Absolute amateur hour... Even if Haas does eventually get a release I wonder if Ikin or DD might give Haas a heads up that his management are absolute clowns and detrimental to his career.
