OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

Its hilarious how people think if he told his team mates first it would get leaked out. Maybe people simply cant work out that Payne could easily say to his management

" getting together to tell the boys at 9am to tell them of my decision, release to the media at the same time whats going on with my contract "

I mean, i'm no genius , but that seems a very simple way to avoid any real hassles with the team and the media leaks. No need for all this concocted he said she said bullshit.

Maybe i am a genius after all.

You are assuming his manager is competent though to be fair.

Being fair, He didnt have to door knock. He could have told his management ( who he pays to look after him ) and Souths he wanted to tell his team mates first or the deal was off. Payne can control the narrative here if he really wanted to.

It wouldnt have been overly difficult to get them all together, its not like it doesnt happen fairly regularly anyway.
That's not how Rugby League works mate. He had to inform the broncos of the 10 day cooling off period. He isn't getting the team together on there last day off with there families before they head off to the UK together. The following day was the season launch followed by jumping on a plane. Everything else was wildly innapropriate imo just to meet your satisfactory in person standard. Sure if he spent the whole 10 day cool down period not telling anyone and chucked a text in the chat minutes before the announcement then understandable but I don't see how at the point which he made his decision he could have done it any other way.

You've spent all week bitching about him. Move on. Its obvious you are butt hurt and clutching at straws. He isn't some horrible human being or friend for addressing his team by the groupchat. The only way the team hears it from him is by sending a message and then talking to his mates.

This idea that even his close mates. So he is supposed to go on a venture out west to Reyno's property, then down to nerang to visit Reecey, then to Burleigh to visit Patty and his amigos down there. If they lived on the same street fair enough. Sure could he have maybe have given them a call first at the least yeah. But do I think its wildly inappropriate that he texted the group chat and then would have fielded calls after he addressed the team as a group. Do you not reckon Madge would have had some input on how he handles the news or asked how he wants to tell the boys...

You're acting as if he popped a cheeky "I'm out *****" in the group chat and turned the phone off going MIA until the season launch where he showed face.

Well, there is that!

Ultimately though, its down to Payne really. Like i said, he can control the narrative with everyone if he wanted to.

Haas doesn't come across as the sharpest tool in the shed and certainly doesn't come across as someone who cares about anyone other than himself and his family. It is what it is, we can't really expect football players to be intellectually or emotionally smart.

Yep, its what i expected from him tbh.

The timing cost Payne more than his poor manners. A day off before they leave for two weeks not long after they've been in Toowoomba for two weeks- not a Bronco that didn't want to be at home on Sunday.

If Payne messages 30 players and says meet me at Red Hill in one hour for a meeting he gets 29 no's back. Payne lives near Red Hill and that's nearly it. Trying to think of the one player that would say yes. Maybe Jensen he'd be at the gym anyway.

When the playing group found out about Kevvie in the media, they were pissed off. The club waited to tell them all at once and it got out.

Ideally of course you all can meet up on Sunday and Payne gets to tell them but the logistics of that were impossible.

Bro, your making out like Haas had no option but to do all this the way he did.
He didnt have to rush, he didnt have to make a last minute decision, he didn't have to let the team know in the manner he did.
This club and his team mates stood beside him through some tough times and he repays them by leaving in this manner?? **** outta here.

Dudes a shit human in that regard and has no respect for his club or his mates.

He could have easily sat the entire team down at any point and told them his plan while thanking them for the time they had together. He could have told his manager that he needs to do right by both the Broncos and his mates so hold of on telling the press.

Payne is the dude who holds all the cards here and he chose to show his hand in a disrespectful shitty way.

I dont wish bad for the guy, but im not upset at all he is leaving. I was initially but the dude is drama and self serving and I am looking forward to the Broncos without all his noise.

Really hoping latrell steps on his shoes though, would be sweet.

Or he waits? And when they are all together next let's them know? What was his rush to tell the world that it couldn't have waited a few days so he could have told his club and mates respectfully?

Again talking like he had no option but to do it the way he did.

So he does it whilst on tour? he does it the week before the season? **** off... When could he have done this when it would have appeased you?

He made his decision by all reports that weekend... how is he supposed to sit them down? He sits them down halfway through the process the story gets out goes mental for a week and you'd be whingeing about the circus it causes.

Just pipe down.

Anyone with half an ounce of emotional regulation isn't carrying on right now. NOBODY CARES. You are just but hurt and turning to anything you can to rip the man down. He left for a better future for his family, which in all honesty I believe he is providing them. Don't knock the bloke. For everything the club has done for him, he has returned imo. IN FULL. No if, buts or maybe's.

Clutching at straws because he sent out at a text ffs. Move on.

OMG i can't even with this stupidity. He had to tell the club. You really reckon he waits another 24 hours and the media don't find out?? WAYNE BENNETT LEAKED THE STORY FFS THAT SAME AFTERNOON. Whats the bet brent read called up Payne with a courtesy and Payne urgently chucked a message in the chat to say here boys heres the situation. It's either he did what he did or they find out in the media. TAKE YOUR PICK. TAKE IT. But don't pretend there is a world where no matter what he did you wouldn't be sooking about something right now trying to tarnish the bloke...

At the season launch? What's he supposed to do gather them at the Fortitude Music Hall back room and tell them. It would have hijacked the event, and the Broncos management would have been furious.

Don't think that's ideal either and then the airport you're missing a large chunk of the squad.

He could have jumped on the mic at the launch like a drunk best man and just given a speech!

Or the plane, grabbed the mic during the safety message, thanks mate I will take it from here I have things to say to the boys.

**** outta here clown, people have standards to behaviour, just because you dont and accept being bent over doesn't mean others have to.
I literally just said I wish Payne well and you are calling me butthurt? Are you that ****en stupid?
The fact multiple people in here think the way he broke the news to his teammates is shit means it has merit to some folks and you being an arrogant **** doesn't change that.

Continue living with zero standards or expectations of basic common decency to people that mean something to you. Thats your choice, but im not lowering my standards or expectations because some halfwit numpty on a forum doesn't like it.

Or waited till after the overseas trip, or told them while on the trip out at dinner, or had tact and.let them know at a later date then released it to the media? There are options.

Rofl you are deadset moronic.
Payne could stick his first up your ass while walking out the door and you would thank him for it.

People acting like Payne had to make this decision immediately and tell the press TODAY.

Hey Wayne, im coming to the Rabbits but give me time to tell my team-mates and do the right thing.

NOT SO ****EN HARD TO GRASP IS IT.

There are loads of ways this could have played out better than it has. There was never going to be a good way to appease everyone, but that still doesnt mean it couldnt have been handled better from Payne and his team.

WHAT......

It's like you think he runs the courier mail website. What do you think this is....

He had to advise Brisbane of his signature elsewhere...

If he signed in the UK you'd whinge about him derailing the WCC.

If he signed afterwards you'd complain about him creating a circus on the eve of the competition.

Like seriously I want you to tell me the perfect situation for him leaving and you re-reading it and thinking about all the things that had to go perfectly for a drastically worse outcome than what happened to not occur.

I'm just baffled.

Nobody disagrees with you that in person is the best way to go. I don't think one bit for him that was possible. AT ALL. And whilst I think a phone call should have at least been afforded to his close mates beforehand I do believe that the likelihood is very high that the catalyst for the text was because Brent Read would have told him this is the story I'm running in 30 minutes... "Care to comment"

Like you live in a fantasy world where you think this shit doesn't travel very far.

It was insanely kept under wraps as it was.

If you seriously think waiting any longer to sign or even waiting until the next day was not only appropriate but that Souths wouldn't shout that shit from the rooftops you are delusional.

I don't know what else to say to you mate. You have no common sense.

It overshadowed the season launch anyway, so much of a muchness.
