PLAYER Payne Haas

Agree it's not overs based on what could have been paid and the criteria you have set out. I think it is a little bit of overs in cap management. 1.2 on a prop is not ideal.
Maybe not absolutely ideal, but when you’ve got the absolute best player in a position and you haven’t paid the most he could have got, or the most that any player in that position earns across the game, then it’s still a fairly decent bit of business.

Haas gets slightly less than he’d probably like, but a more contented club environment, and Brisbane pay slightly more than they’d probably like, but get the morale boost that comes with retaining your best player and a guy the other players obviously wanted to stay - I’d call that a very sound negotiation and outcome for all parties.

He's calling it "upgraded" rather than "extended," so he thinks the new contract replaces the existing one.
I reckon it’s an upgrade on next year and a three year extension. Just seems to be too much messing about for a deal that only extends him two more years.

Tonight on 360.

Broncos cap in crisis after making Haas the highest paid Bronco in history.

Rivals swirling for Walsh and Mamm.

Despite it being less than the the Tino deal 🤭
You're not far off haha

"The juggling act is just beginning for the broncos... Walsh off contract '25, Capewell '24... EZRA MAM!! .. he's going for $700k-$800k in the current market"

This is the best result possible. Seriously seriously good business. Literally 50k more a year than I wanted to pay. This is truly amazing for both parties. Haas is going to rake in third party deals too. I really thought he was gone and was ok with it but sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy to be wrong. He is an absolute gun and with him and Patty, man who cares whoever else is around them.

Now on to Mam!

And honestly, Capewell sounded like he was ok with taking a downgrade, sounds like Oatesy is too. Reynolds will also. So I reckon we will keep Piaks, Riki and Mam too.

This re-signing is just simply massive.

Haas is maybe the most physically gifted prop of all time - the “maybe” might be underselling him.

I didn’t mind us paying a large amount to keep him, or offering a long contract to keep him - my biggest concern was that we would do both.

$1.2 for 3 years is close to perfect imo. Otherwise less per year for a longer duration would’ve also been acceptable.

Glad it’s over and can’t wait to see Patty and Payne continue to develop together

Great news and seems to be a quality deal for both parties. The talking head don't seem to want to bring up that Fleg was one of the highest paid props going around, wasn't the claim that he was on 750? So factor in him, Herb leaving and the new salary cap. One can assume we will have money to upgrade Mann, Walsh and possibly Cobbo.

I have already gear kurt say he will take a downgrade at a presser. Would assume that Oates and Reynolds would also. There is something special coming. You can see the unity.

We win a premiership with Haas, i dont see him ever leaving (barring the 2027 RU world cup).

3 more years of impeccable consistency and sticking around for a few years now that we’ve finally capable of some success - in 3 years I wouldn’t even be mad at him leaving, he would owe us nothing if that were to occur

And we will have Willison going great guns too.

Boy fast forward 12 months, imagine this middle:

8. Willison
10. Haas
13. Carrigan

You just know that with TPJ “retiring” the dogs are going to go super hard for one if not a few of our forwards; Riki, Piakura (again), Willison, Capewell.
Can see it coming from a mile away.

With Payne and Patty locked up, it doesn't really matter if we lose one of them and to be honest, I actually think Capes would be a really, really good fit for them. They need a leader who is actually good and Capewell is definitely that.
