PLAYER Payne Haas

Bro, did you watch the game he came off the bench at hooker?
Yep, not great. I think that's why we all underrated him. What I meant was I completely forgot he's part of our hooker depth, and unlike our other half-cum-hookers, he's actually good enough to play 6 in the QCup.

Paix damages his knee and then gets knocked out all while trying to come back early from injury. Give the kid a break. He was going really well until the knee injury and they take time to recover from, particularly for someone whose entire job is to you know, bend down and pick up a ball.

@McHunt et al, you are all dreaming if you think you are going to get Cook for two years. He has a very young family, I could not see any feasible way he is going to up end his entire family and move away from their support system to come here for two years. About as realistic as saying we should chase Harry Grant.

Verrills however is a totally different kettle of fish and the one we should be targetting.

Just like Reynolds?

I'm still going with either Simpkin or Berrell. I am still a massive fan of Berrell and he would be base wage.

Reynolds wanted to move up here, I have heard nothing about Cook wanting to. We will see whether my take is correct fairly soon I would say. Odds on he re-signs with the Rabbits.

Bend down, here it comes again.

Any one notice Selwyn got another smack in the head the other night and wasn`t right after ?
He looked distressed for a while . Then was puffing hard after efforts .

Yeah look it was probably harsh of me to say he’s gone backwards but after last season I had high hopes for him and he just seems to have stagnated.
I don't think you've been harsh....you've knocked it on the head, IMO.

Paix definitely aint working out.....and the writing was on the wall long before his knee injury. He offers nothing.....
It highlights just how low we have set our bar for the no.9 position, that we're still playing around with Paix.

With the gluttony of big young blokes coming on in our forwards, I'm definitely in favour of telling Payne to take a hike and we go after a better than half decent dummy half with a fist full of dollars.

Are forwards worth 800K plus? That is approximately 9% of the salary cap.

I think Huge pointed out a couple of years ago that Haas maybe disgruntled with his contract given his output versus Flegers, TPJ, and fifitas contract. Collectively, forwards are on too much money.

As much as Haas denies it, big money should be spent on spine players. Our improvements this season have really come from having a strong administration; DD and Ikin.

Carrigan has to thinking he's worth Haas money too. Now that's 18% of the salary cap in 2 props....

We need a gun 9. I would love to shop Haas for a player exchange. Shame we couldn't of exchanged Harry Grant for Haas when they still had Brandon Smith on their books.
Yeah, I saw the Haas drama from a long way off. As soon as someone youngish, near Haas's age earned more pa than he did, he noticed.

When he saw someone really close earning three times as much for a third of the work( whatever it really was it was Haas being left for dead and looking like he'd been hoodwinked, a fool)

I think the money for Fifita puffed up the market for a lot of forwards.

Robbert Craddock on Payne's offers from English rugby, in today's Courier Mail:

But Haas will be on $850,000 next year at the Broncos and it would be an enormous call to take the plunge in a game which would require massive technical adjustments for the sake of a few hundred thousand dollars. Haas is contracted to the Broncos for the next two seasons.
It will be a surprise if he does not see out the deal.

Enter SBW and his posse of brains and anything could happen.

If it's any consolation, Craddock's hit rate on predictions isn't all that "crash" hot.

The guy was prepared to walk out of the club mid-season for the sake for a "few hundred thousand dollars" so I've got no doubt that European rugby waving a few Euros under his schnozz would cover any "technical adjustments" he'd be picking up a handy paycheck to learn.

Exactly. My money's not on Craddock's logic.

But he might not want to pack up his baby and pregnant baby mama and leave Australia.

Payne Haas:

“I wouldn’t say I have an itch to leave. I don’t even know where the European rugby rumour came from, I don’t know how that came out. Europe is pretty cool, but I’m not worried about that. I have goals I want to tick off here in the NRL. I played rugby as a kid, but I’m not sure about going overseas, I’m enjoying my time playing rugby league."
“I am happy at the Broncos. My family live here on the Gold Coast and my preference is to stay at the Broncos, I will say that, but things happen in rugby league and I have to sort that out."
“I’m only 22 and people forget I’m still young, so I’m learning my trade here and I want to tick some goals off first.”
“I guess with what happened that week asking for a release, I understood why being booed happened. It’s all good. I can understand why the fans were like that. I’m not angry at them, it is what it is and I’ve moved on from that.”
“I can’t change what happened. I am happy here. We have put talks on the backburner until the end of the year and we will see what happens. I am close to the boys and I’m enjoying my football here, so at the end of the year hopefully we can sort something out.”
“Melbourne are the benchmark and to have a game like this will help us a lot. Just putting in a good performance against a top-four team isn’t good enough anymore, so we need to beat Melbourne this week. We have to prove it to each other. It’s a big end of season for us and the top eight isn’t guaranteed for us, so the next three weeks, we need to be up for it.”
